Calling out on the Isle of Wight

Hello to anyone also here on the island.

It seems that, every so often, I hear from other MNers who are local and then things go very quiet.

Is anyone interested in having an active local board? Meeting up? Sharing ideas or thoughts?

Hi,
I'm a local, new mum with 3 week old baby. I'd be interested in chatting to, meeting any others out there. Can't type now though - got to change a nappy....

I'm on the Island too, got a DD aged 15 months!

Emilyp25 · 19/12/2009 22:07

Hi! I have just moved back to the Isle of Wight with a 4 year old and a 20 month old everyday is a challenge! I am taking over TinyTalk classes from January 2010 - classes in Cowes and Newport at the moment if you fancy coming along!

Baby signing is fun and is a great way to enable your baby to communicate with you before they can talk! We learn everyday signs through simple nursery rhymes for the first part of the class and then have social time for the babies with lots of toys and a drink and biscuits for Mum - which is a great time to meet and chat to other Mums about being a Mum!

Please contact me for further info: 07900 803521 or 612577 or email [email protected]

Special offers: Your first class has £1.00 off.
Book for 5 out of 6 classes (£17.50 for returning Mums (£16.50 for New Mums) and receive a free TT Eco Bag!

I look forward to hearing from you

Emily

Hi Dysgu, I think we "met" on one of the other IOW threads. I would be really interested, as I don't have any family on the island, and very few mum-friends.

I have a 4mo DD, and am on mat.leave til May

Emilyp25 · 12/01/2010 22:34

Hi again!

I know how hard it is when you have a baby and it really is great to get out and meet other Mums (otherwise you would go mad!). Not trying to "plug" too much but going to TinyTalk was one of the first things I got out and did with my first baby at a couple of months old, purely really to get out and meet other Mums. I obviously then found the content of the class fantastic for both of us! so much so that I wanted to run classes myself!

Would be lovely to see you (and any others!) at classes in either Cowes or Newport soon!

Hi,
I am on the island too and have a 3 year old boy. I am particularly interested to learn more about child activities and entertainment, clubs etc during school holidays. My son's preschool closes during school holidays and we are always struggeling to find care for him while we work.

Best,
Dacs

Dysgu · 06/04/2010 21:28

Hello All

I also find school holidays more of a challenge - although not due to childcare. I only work term time so have my two (now aged 3.5 years and 15 months) full time in the holidays and struggle to find things to do. We don't know many people with young children - my two go to playgroups with our child minder so they know lots of people but I know none!

Perhaps we should arrange to get together sometime?

As for the TinyTalk classes - I would have loved to attend but went back to full time work when DD2 was 6-7 months old. I did sign with DD1 as I used to work with HI children. Saturday classes would be wonderful!

Where is everyone?

I am in Cowes.

I'm in Newport. Would love to meet some other island Mums!

Emilyp25 · 15/04/2010 22:30

I live in Ryde! These two weeks over Easter have been a struggle, dread to think what the 6 week hols will be like!

Will consider Saturday TinyTalk classes! In the meantime make sure you tell everyone you know how great Baby Signing is!!!!!

PositiveAttitude · 21/04/2010 07:05

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi.

I am in Newport, but my DCs are older. (Middle & high school age - and older) Often wondered if there were any MNers from the Island. Now I will be paranoid in town, wondering who you all are.

Nattty · 22/04/2010 18:30

Hiya

Just joined mumsnet. 37 weeks pg and counting!

Only had a quick look on the site but do I take it there isn't much going on on the Island?

I live in Sandown and was hoping to meet other expectant/existing mums in the area.

AllWightWithoutWebbedToes · 23/04/2010 15:09

Hey all

I'm a name-changer here as TTCing and don't want the boss to work it out! So marking my place for when I eventually do get preggers. If anyone has any good ante-natal advice on the island send it this way!

Incidentally there are quite a few of us islanders hiding on a holiday Isle of Wight thread, think we're all a bit scared of getting recognised.

Emilyp25 · 27/04/2010 22:11

Hi Natty!

Come along to TinyTalk from September (if not before!) - I'm sure you will be wanting to get out and about and TT is a great way to meet other Mums and learn a great skill too!

Hope the rest of the pregnancy etc. goes well!

Emily

PS don't know much about it but think either Sandown or Shanklin (maybe both) have a Baby Cafe running for new and expectant Mothers. Maybe pop in to your local Surestart Centre if you haven't already to find out about things going on? Its such an unknown thing this motherhood stuff - I didn't have a clue what to do or where to go!

Nattty · 05/05/2010 19:14

Thanks Emily - will do both. As you say - all new and different.

Emilyp25 · 08/05/2010 21:09

Make sure you let us know when you have the baby!

Hope it all goes well
