Sorry had gone to put the lambs in the byre and finish the scones I was baking(!?) to go with the broth for the supper! Ok ok so only the aunties are that 'gaidhealach". For me this is my first language and although i am a native speaker there was no such thing as gme when I was young so it was quite late before I came to learning to read and write it. I was in my teens so what I'm trying to say is speaking it and teaching how to say something is, imo, straight forward but giving you the breakdown, going through the various tenses, the genitives, the vocative, dative, conditional, etc, well that's not so easy. I know a good few learners and they are making excellent progress doing Ulpan as well as going to classes, but I am aware that it takes, time, patience and fortitiude!

Just had a thought, i would be quite happy to try to answer any questions about stuff that comes up at the classes that needs a further explanation...breakdowns etc of that if yo want...

weegiemum · 07/10/2009 08:43

I have a very occasional homework issue, macmam. Woul do you mind if I asked for help?

macmam · 07/10/2009 10:14

Not at all. If I can, I will..

weegiemum · 07/10/2009 10:24

tapadh leibh gu mor!

(my dd1 is off school today, can you tell!)

AitchTwoToTangOh · 07/10/2009 10:33

gotcha, macmam. it actually does seem like there are worlds of difference between speaking and spelling gaidhlig, almost like the two htings have to be learned separately, iykwim? unlike the romance languages, which are just a matter of learning a few patterns. (i mean i'm sure that the patterns in gaidhlig will become apparent but jeeeez they're a mystery to me at the moment).
