I've recently started blogging about parks in Greater Manchester(link below) - you might find it useful if you are bored of your local favourites. I'm adding to it regularly, so Keep looking if you don't see anything you fancy, or you can suscribe to get updates. Comments/suggestions welcome!

Looks good! I live in Chorlton and seem to live in Longford Park at the moment, so could do with some inspiration for other places to go with DD.

parklover · 25/08/2009 19:03

Thanks choppychopster! As I said, I'll be adding to it all the time, so keep looking. I know there's nothing on htere in south Manchester yet, but have you tried Wythenshawe Park? It's v good.

Great idea parklover.

How about Worthington Park, John Leigh Park, Walton Park (miniature steam train rides on sundays), Bruntwood Park in south Manchester?

parklover · 25/08/2009 21:17

Thanks Montifer - when the metrolink is back up and running it will drop me door to door to Walton Park, so I'll def do that. Will check out your other suggestions too.

Heaton Park in North Manchester? Chassen Park in Urmston with it's miniature steam railway?

Both worth a look

parklover · 26/08/2009 22:02

Heaton Park will be on there very soon, I virually live there! Chassen Park on my parks pending list. Thanks johnworf.
I'm adding to the blog most days, because we visit a park most days - so keep looking if you are after ideas yourself.
Really appreciate all the ideas guys

I live in Bury and there's some great parks near to us to recommend

parklover · 31/08/2009 22:34

Couldn't agree more johnworf, we are lucky to have so many great parks and playgrounds. Am having great fun working our way around them!

LOL. Too good for the children. hehe.

I've just added a post on Boggart Hole Clough to my blog - it's a great alternative if you are looking for a change from Heaton Park, as it's not far from there.

Have you got Debdale Park listed? It's one of the few good things about living in Gorton and it's got a donkey centre - bonus!

parklover · 06/09/2009 20:56

Haven't got Debdale on there yet, as I haven't been since I started the blog - but I will do, as I've run there and agree, it's v nice! Didn't know about the donkeys though! Where is the donkey centre? I'm intrigued!
P.s, Moses Gate in Bolton and Wharf Picnic Site in Ramsbottom added this week.

Hi - I've added Bruntwood Park in Cheadle, Wythenshawe Park, Princes Park in Irlam and Fletcher Moss Gardens in Didsbury to the blog this week. Thought I should head South as someone asked me if I was working for the North Manchester tourist board!

Are you going to name & shame as well? The play area in Chorlton Park is awful. Over the past year or so various things have broken, been removed but not replaced. Soon there will be nothing to play on. This is why we are all hanging out at Longford which received a fab revamp the other year.

parklover · 21/10/2009 19:40

That is sad to hear nct73.
Yes, I try to give a fair account of the parks we visit and will tell it like it is. I must admit though, that as I am taking my daughter to the park for a visit, I am not usually purposely looking for rubbishy venues! If I hear of poorly maintained areas though, I'll do my best to add them. Next time I'm near Chorlton I'll try and pop in take some photos and add them to the site. It will make it look extra bad next to all the lovelies on there!
PS, Whitworth Art Gallery and neighbouring park added this week and Astley Hall in Chorlton last week. Coming soon.....Hesketh Park in Southport if you fancy a trip to the seaside!

Wilmslow Park (nice walk by the river too) and Bramhall Park are both nice.
