What would you say is the best restaurant in Glasgow at the moment?

I'm getting made redundant when I go on mat leave at the end of June.

I would like to go for a really nice meal with DH with some of the money before the chaos of a new baby (yes I know the money would be better spent on boring bills!!).

I'm really out of touch with where is considered good. has anyone got any suggestions?

Hi we love Topolinos on Sauchiehall Street. It is a lovely Italian and the service is great. You can either spend loads or you can go for the very reasonable pre theatre for £7.95 which is fantastic value. We go there regularly. Alternatively, check out the List magazine's Eating and Drinking Guide, plenty of reviews and hitlists within particularly cuisines. Hope that is helpful. Enjoy your meal!

Cafe anduluz - west end or Mother India (opposite Art Galleries) are my favorite at the moment.

BaDaBing · 02/06/2009 20:48

Two Fat Ladies or Rogano for seafood. Cafe Gandolfi for modern Scottish. La Fiorentina is a great Italian or Roma Mia in Pollokshield is fab! Cafe Mother India as already suggested is a great Indian and is served tapas styles - fab! Bar Milano in Clarkston also very good!

Ha ha, can you tell I like to eat out!

it is imo Guy's in candleriggs. i had The Most Delicious meal there recently. staff fantastic, ambience great, everything perfect without feeling ripped-off etc.

Oh I love Gandolfi- the smoke venison and dauphinois! Yum. I went to Michael Kaine's Restuarant at Abode on Bath St for lunch 2 sats ago and it was great. (£12.95 for 3 courses- amazing value). The food is really seasonal and good quality. The A La carte in the evenings is more expensive as is the set menu (£55- ouch). Lunch is a good option

Have fun

Two Fat Ladies is my absolute favourite as I love fish. Balbirs on Church Street at the bottom of Byres Road is excellent if you like Indian. They do a sort of banquet thing where if you tell them what sort of thing you like or don't like they will bring you a selection of different dishes. If you are looking for posh then Brian Maule at the Chardon D'or is the one.

trixymalixy · 04/06/2009 23:58

Ooh, thank you everybody!!

this had dropped out of my threads i'm on so had forgotten i had started this.

I quite fancy either Chardon D'Or or Abode.

Have a fab time Trixy.

AitchTwoOh · 05/06/2009 09:28

my friend had a great meal at chardon d'or last week, enjoy yourself.

midnightexpress · 05/06/2009 09:50

I was out at The Italian Caffe on Albion St last night - second time I've been there and the food is fabulous - sort of Italian tapas. Scrumptious.

I'm also a Mother India fan. And Asia Style in Charing Cross(very not posh, but really good). And Gandolfi.

Have fun!

geordieminx · 09/06/2009 21:24

geordieminx · 09/06/2009 21:27

Or Cameron House at Loch Lomond if you dont mind driving?

trixymalixy · 11/06/2009 12:09

Ooh will have a look at Cameron House. neither of us are drinking at the moment so driving is no problem.

been a couple of times to the bar and grill which is fab, but fancied somewhere I ahdn't been before.

We went to the boathouse bit of C house for birthday lunch, took C - it was lovely.

trixymalixy · 08/07/2009 23:59

So we finally managed to go for our meal out on Monday. A triple celebration commiseration of my birthday/redundancy/imminent arrival of baby.

DH booked for us to go to Abode, but when we got there we were told that they had booked us into the downstairs restaurant and that Michael Caine's restaurant was closed on a Monday. We were not happy bunnies.

In the end we got reception to phone Chardon D'Or to see if they had a free table and went there instead!!!

It was very nice, thanks for the suggestion ladies!!

We went to Gamba on W. George St at the weekend - it was FAB! - seafood place, so you have to like fish, but great if you do!

trixymalixy · 09/07/2009 00:04

I love Gamba, have been there a few times. Not for a long time though.

Maybe in another year's time when we venture out for dinner again!

For any foodies I'd recommend joining socialanimal - you get discounts in a lot of the restaurants mentioned on this thread.

Any excuse for me not to cook really ;)

Bababoom · 21/11/2009 18:46

I would recommend Tattie Mac on Otago Street - have had a few meals there, which have all been great.

KristinaM · 10/01/2010 11:02

Can i revive this thread to ask for recommendation in the city centre, near Central Station or the Royal Concert hall? We are going to a concert and looking for a bite pre theatre

Anything except Indian

TIA

geordieminx · 10/01/2010 14:49
