Nurseries in Leith/Newhaven area

Hi there. I'm just getting into the stress inducing exercise of looking for a nursery place and would be grateful for any recommendations for Leith/Newhaven area. Don't particularly relish the idea at the moment but know it needs to be done. I'm sure my wee boy will enjoy it but I wont!! Many thanks Michelle x

Hi Michelle,

my sympathy to you first of all - I remember when I first starting looking at nurseries and I found it overwhelming and I couldn't possibly imagine any place that was good enough for my precious baby! But it does get better with time.....

there are two nurseries that I can think of in Leith. Headstart is on Queen Charlotte Street (near Constitution street). My children don't go there although I did look round it a couple of years ago and it seemed ok. I didn't like the outside space which is very exposed to passers by. But several of my friends and neighbours have sent / currently send their children there and are happy.

My own children go to Forbes on Leith Links - it might be a bit far for you as its the other side of Leith from Newhaven. I'm very happy with it - the staff are great, its a very caring atmosphere and the garden is fantastic (knocked spots of any other outside space I've ever seen at any other nursery). They're also great for taking the kids on outings, and the food is really good - always homemade and healthy. It's not perfect - if I'm being honest it can seem a tiny bit chaotic sometimes but my children are happy there and I'm happy with the nursery. It had an impromptu inspection recently and I had a quick look at the report which seemed to be excellent, lots of "very goods".

I think there is also a nursery at Leith Academy, as a couple of my neighbours send their children there but I don't know much about it I'm afraid.

hope that helps

Hi! Many thanks for that. We're going to see Forbes next week so it's really good to have a first hand report from someone who has their children there. Yes I know what you mean about Headstart, we live very close to it but I must admit the outside space had put me off.

I have heard that Careshare at Next Generation was very good.
