recs for cleaning agencies

gingerwench · 29/04/2009 10:19

Due to go back to work soon, and top of my list is to get a cleaner organised for a weekly 2-4hr clean. I think I would prefer to use an agency - any recommendations? a friend uses Merry Maids and says they are good. What about Belle Casa? Home Agency and Home Sweet Home look expensive with their subscriptions...Any experiences? any to avoid? Thanks

I'm in EH16

I use Bella Casa. They are pretty good, well they are since my scary DH reminded them of their obligations for the £2.50 per hour they were receiving.

I have used Home Sweet Home and they gave us a few cleaners that didn't speak any English at all and one fantastic US girl who I suspect wasn't actually meant to be working as was on a Student visa and couldn't accept cheques because she didn't have a bank account.

At one stage we had to buy a Polish dictionary so we could tell the cleaner what we wanted to do, and then light dawned and I realised that the cleaner was in fact meant to make my life easier not harder.

I use Belle Casa too - reasonably reliable - have had a quite high tunrnover of cleaners though

Can anyone tell me how much it is for Belle Casa and what the system is e.g. you pay agency and they pay cleaner? Do you need to be in when they come or do they have a key?
Thanks

meep · 11/05/2009 14:24

you pay the cleaner - and you set up a direct debit to pay a quarterly fee to the agency.

if you are happy to you can just give the cleaner a key. The agency will get it back fro you if the cleaner leaves and either give it to your new cleaner or return it to you.

Thelongroadhome · 11/05/2009 14:59

Thanks for getting back to me - do you mind me asking how much it is? After a weekend cleaning I am more keen to get someone to help. Thanks

Thelongroadhome · 11/05/2009 16:51

Oh, just looked on their website and it says £8.75.

rookiemater · 11/05/2009 17:33

Its £2.25 per hour for the agency and £6.50 for the cleaner. I find it a bit unfair because if you increase the cleaners hours then the agency earns more and they haven't done anything extra.

Our last cleaner wasn't very good so we have asked for a replacement and they have been very good about it. Although I think they will do just about anything rather than speak to my scary DH again

Hi, I use the Home Cleaning Co,which is based in Leith. Their web address is www.thehomecleaningco.co.uk . They've always been very reliable and have gone out of their way to help us over the few years we've used them. We have a regular cleaner through them who does 2 hours cleaning/changing beds etc and 1 hours ironing for £38. per week. Well worth it believe me!

gingerwench · 24/05/2009 16:02

thanks all for your help. I've decided to try a 3hr/week Bella Casa clean. Merry Maids were just too much for a weekly clean and I think a fortnightly clean just won't be enough for our filth.

Just to say that I have now had a cleaner from Bella Casa for the last 2 weeks and she has been great - wondering why I didnt do it sooner although I do also feel guilty about her only getting £13 for 2 hours of cleaning and then all her travelling to get here...

Hi

Its my first time posting a message. Does anyone have a good cleaner they can recommend? I live south of Edinburgh past Bonnyrigg. I am stressed out juggling work and the kids and I need order in my life.

Thanks

Thelongroadhome · 24/04/2010 15:00

I got one after years of thinking I didnt fancy it and I love having one. I get it through Belle Casa agency - they charge 8.75 per hour (6.50 for the cleaner and £2.25 for the agency. Theres someone on my work website who advertises and she does it for 'from £20' for the house - I think she comes out and looks at your house and then tells you what she charges. Depends which way you would prefer to pay. I can give you her details if you want.

Graciescotland · 24/07/2010 18:54

I resisted having a cleaner but my dh insisted, our first baby is due soon and he wants me to relax Best thing I ever did, our cleaner is super efficient charges £7.50 an hour and does everything except ironing. She's very trustworthy, I could ask her whether she wants her details passed on? She works in central Edinburgh.

Molly Maid. They've been brilliant. Much more expensive than I've ever paid a cleaner before but they are so reliable, don't need to be asked to do the doors, etc, just great.

Blackbutterfly2 · 17/02/2015 13:44

Just stay away from Bella Casa. Once they introduce a cleaner to you they never do anything else for you. If you ever want to use the insurance (in case there is any damage made by the cleaner, etc.), be sure that they will not manage to help you with this. If you have any problem at all that you want to discuss with them, be sure that you can not reach them. They ask you to contact them by post and they advise that there is not anyone you can talk to on the phone who would have enough knowledge to answer your queries. I know a few other people who use their services and they all have horrible experiences with them. I have a big list I can share with you if you are interested to know more about their extremely poor services!

Nospringflower · 20/02/2015 19:53

I have had good experiences with Belle Casa although have never had to claim on insurance. Cleaners have been great and one that wasn't was replaced. They phone regularly to check I am happy and I have always been able to contact them on the phone.

coffeeCamelCase · 21/02/2015 09:50

I've used both Molly Maids and Merry Maids at different times, and disrecommend both.

Molly maid- more expensive than others, but excellent and super reliable. We always have the same team and they are just lovely 😊
