Hi, just after some local knowledge... I'm looking for a playgroup to go to with my 15 month old on a Monday or Tuesday. The closest to me is in Union Church, Weston Park in Crouch End but the waiting list is at least 9 months!! Are there any other places anyone can recommend? Ideally, with vehicles/climbing frames/lots of toys...somewhere to really tire him out!
Any info much appreciated!

RhianB, the Jolly Babies group is 1.30 to 4.30 on Monday afternoon at the Burghley Road Under 5's Centre off Turnpike Lane, near Wood Green. We have a baby room and a toddler room - dividing line is about 1 year or when baby starts to walk, and there's an outdoor space with play equipment. Are you in Crouch End or on the ladder or somewhere else? No waiting list, just come along. Do post on here if you're thinking of coming and I'll look out for you. It won't be on this Monday coming but will on 11 May. It's £1.50 per family to cover room, refreshments and restocking the toys. It's run by and for parents. The rest of the week it's also run by parents for Under 5s as a play/lunch eating group - the posters say it's £4 for one adult and child (I've not been other than on Monday myself though).

I've heard of a playgroup called Stationer's Playgroup - I think that's not far from the Union Church. I think the family I know goes there on Tuesdays - I'll ask next time I see the mum (probably at Jolly Babies).

A lot of children's centres have groups aimed at over 1s or all under 5s as well as baby groups. Some will be Stay and Play, others will have specific activities such as Messy Play or music and singing.

There's also a Muswell Hill NCT toddler/baby group at CUFOS - it's open to non members to go but is run by mums who met through the NCT. Again, it's £1.50 to cover costs.

In terms of drop-ins on Mon or Tue, I know of the following...

Baby Group for parents, carers and babies - toddlers.
Church hall next to St Aidans school on Stapleton Hall Road (next to the YMCA nursery). Not quite Crouch End I know.
Monday mornings 9.15 - 11.15
£1 per child
Baby group run by the Church staff, tea and biscuits available.

If you wanted to come up to Finsbury Park, there is also Jamboree, in the Play Huts in Finsbury Park (nr the entrance on Seven Sisters Road)
Every morning 11-12.30 and then again in the afternoon 1-2.30. FREE. No need to book
Toys, books, crafts, things like water and sand play. Outdoor play too. Good for toddlers.

You could also try the drop-in at Stroud Green Childrens Centre on a Monday morning, which is also free but no outdoor space. Probably worth also investigating Campsbourne Childrens Centre if that is near you.

NCT playgroup, as suggested by Elkiedee, is probably your best bet as it is quite cheap but still has lots of toys and indoor and outdoor space. And cars, which you specifically wanted!

  • Bumps, babes and tiddlypeeps
CUFOS, Top of the Avenue N10 (between the playground and the Laboratory Spa) Tuesday 3-4.30 £1.50 per family group Soft toys, puzzles, pretend play, bikes and outdoor equipment, arts and crafts, Usually a singsong at about 4.00ish. Good for toddlers especially. Homemade cake usually available (included in the entry price).

And finally, don't forget...
Singing with Jeremy
Mon, Wed, Fri 10:30 - 11.15 Priory Park Cafe.
£3.50

HTH.
