Has anyone had a one off spring clean done?

And was it worth the money? I have only spoken to one company so far and they were saying it would take four hours to clean my (small) two bedroom flat, and the price seemed quite high- £72. Maybe this is a normal price? If so it is not something I could afford but I would be interested to hear of what gets done in a one off clean and also any recommendations for companies in the Oxford area. Thanks!

Hi that sounds like a low price to me but it depends how many people they bring with them. also we are in Greater London so probably have to pay more for stuff like that.

Dp paid for a company to do a 'deep clean', plus clean the carpets, when I was pg with ds3. I wasn't too impressed though, they just seemed to do the carpets and do a bit of cleaning then bugger off when they felt they'd done the 4 hours or so. They certainly didn't move things around to make sure they had really cleaned them. But they did have a good go at the toilets, which were very stained (from the previous occupants I hasten to add).

We have a 4 bed house and it could have done with more work and I would have been happier to pay for longer since I had taken myself and ds2 round to a neighbour already - but they didn't really talk much to us about what exactly we wanted.

In retrospect, and if I had arranged it rather than dp, I would have spent a bit longer looking into it and would have asked for references (or recommendations from my friends). It was nicer than having to do it myself, though, so I can't complain too much.

Oh dear, really, I think it may be beyond my budget then. I think I may have to pop over to the good house keeping threads to get some tips about keeping up with it all instead! I have hurt my back and was really hoping to get a good clean done, behind and under things and in particular the things I am finding hard to do properly like the floors. Disappointing for you that they didn't do a very good job too.

I think dp probably just called the first company he found, I'm sure there are better ones around. I seem to remember other mumsnetters being far happier with their deep cleans. So it might still be worth it for you.

Thanks yes I think I will only do it if I get a good price and recommendation. I do know a friend of a friend who does occasional cleaning wok but in a way I think I would prefer an agency as they would send more than one person and I would be more comfortable with asking them to do what I need doing.
