Hi, my name is kittykat, I'm quite a young mum (but please dont judge me on my age) and I'm new to this site, (cant believe I havn't discoved it before!) I have a ds who is 2 and a dd who is 6 months, I would love to meet/chat to other mums in and around this area as i dont know many other mummies. Has anyone got any suggestions for groups/places to go to (where both my children will be amused) so we can meet new people?

Hi kittykat! Welcome to the Colchester bit!

I have a DS(13) DD1(4) and DD2(2)(If you don't judge me on my age,I'm ancient I won't judge you)

We meet up quite frequently,so I'm sure you'd be welcome at one of our meet-ups,should be one happening very soon

Where are you in Colchester? So we can advise you of your local groups etc.

I live in Myland, and my name is Jo.

kittykat21 · 04/03/2009 22:44

Hi Jo
I'm glad someones replyed, i'd love to meet up with people, Im actualy in Wivenhoe, but I drive so anywhere in Colchester really. I grew up in Colchester so I know most areas fairly well. My DS loves places like adventure land/go bananas but I dont think they do any groups there (?) and I'm quite shy when it comes to meeting new people I'm probably being silly but I allways feel like the youngest mummy there and have had a few nasty comments thrown my way in the past. Anywhere friendly would be good. My name is Kell.

Hi Kell,
I can really recommend 'little monkeys' on a thursday morning at 10am. Its at SD Martial arts near rollerworld. Your DS would love it - soft play plus rideons and toys, and its all toddler height so mums dont have to stand over them all of the time. They have a tea and coffee area and biccies. Its not a 'group' as such, but if you come and see a heavily tattooed lady, and a scruffy woman with wool for hair chasing around a crazy looking 2yr old DS, that will be me and my friend Snippety (she is the one with the body art), and we will talk to you! Mind you, we are both on the wrong side of 30. Cant believe people have been nasty to you 'cos of your age - the b!£"tards.

If you are breastfeeding Le leche league have a meeting every other friday morning at teh quaker meeting house. There are a few really young mums there who are lovely and lots of toys for toddlers. (ooh and nice snacks!)

Erm, what else...mumsnet meetups are always a laugh - i cant get to them at the mo cos im at uni part time. ggrrr. Dont worry about being shy about meeting for the first time - we've all been there.

Hope to meet you soon!

Mung · 05/03/2009 09:07

Hi and welcome.

We aren't worried about age around here. I can't believe that people would even consider it. Surely once we are parents then age is irrelevant? Purpleflower is around your age, I think (she'll confirm that) and noone is rude to her!

I can recommend the Colchester Gym Club in HIghwoods, its great fun for everyone.

You'll have to come along next time we meet up and then you can put our real names to our faces. Its quite scary the first time, but we have all been there. I remember PF coming to my house and being totally shy, I think she sat in the car outside for 10 minutes and then nearly chickened out.

Look forward to meeting you soon.

MrsMagooo · 05/03/2009 09:21

Hi KittyKat,

Welcome to the Colchester section, it's a really friendly bunch & no-one will judge you on your age!!

I have 2 DC, a DD who's 2 & half going on 12 & a DS who is 7 months (today )

We often have meet ups at each others house/Adventure Land & the like so hopefully you can come along to one soon to meet everyone?

Look forward to meeting you & your DC soon

Xx

purpleflower · 05/03/2009 11:33

Hi kittykat

I have a DS who is 2.5 and a DD who is 5 months.

The people here are all lovely. I'm only 22 and no one has ever mentioned my age as a bad thing

You should definately come to one of the meet ups, it will be nice to meet you. I remember how nerve wracking it is though as I'm not very good with new people. I did sit outside Mungs house for a while before getting the courage to go in.

Hope to meet you soon

kittykat21 · 05/03/2009 15:50

Hi thank you all for being so nice, it would be really nice to meet you all thank you for inviting me, although I am quite shy with new people! Will there be a thread on here for when you next meet up?

OP posts:
Sawyer64 · 05/03/2009 16:29

Yes there will be,there was one today, but it was a little short notice to get the person who was hosting to switch on and see this (some of us are -on- here busy most of the time )

We often meet up at Adventureland,so I'm sure that will come up.Thats quite funny walking into a place where you don't "know" anyone, but have been chatting on-line for a while, yet you are really nervous to approach and say hello!

We usually describe ourselves and our buggies which makes life easier.

We are a mixed bunch of fairly ordinary mums, there are a few intellectual teachers who waffle on about Physics and languages, which are a little beyond my understanding but we are a friendly bunch.

JentlyDoesIt · 06/03/2009 20:34

Hiya,

I'm Jen, I have one DS who is 2.4 and a DD who is nearly 11 months I met these guys when DD was only 5 weeks old and it was very scary - specially as the first person I met was Pooter - tee hee!

I'm about to post a thread about a meetup which you are more than welcome to come to. It's a few weeks away but it would be great to see you and I'm sure that there will be another meet up in the meantime. I don't often get to the meetups as they are on Thursdays when I do fat fighters Slimming world

pooter · 06/03/2009 22:24

ggggrrrrrr

im so scary [tongue sticking out emoticon directed at Jently]

Jen - i havent seen you in ages! Whens your meetup? Hope i can get there!

kittykat21 · 07/03/2009 20:53

Mung can you tell me abit more about the colchester gym club? Where abouts in highwoods is it and what times are the sessions, is there a website for it?

Jentlydoesit its very nice of you to invite me but i wouldnt want to impose on a birthday party when no-one knows me. Id like to meet all of you though. Ill probably be quite nervous but i will fight the urge to run away and chicken out!

Pooter i might go to the little monkeys thing next thursday that sounds like fun, maybe ill see you there? Ill be the nervous looking one with shoulderlength brown hair. I hope you're not as scary as everyone says!

OP posts:
pooter · 07/03/2009 23:25

cool! i will look out for you! (and i am the opposite of scary!!) my boy is the one with the curly quiff, and we usually do a lot of chasing after each other

wikey · 10/03/2009 13:45

Hi Kittykat - im new on here too. I've got 2 girls of 4 and 2 - they will be 5 and 3 in may. We also go to gymnastics on highwoods. i think it runs most mornings. i usually go on wednesday mornings with my little one. it starts at 10.30 and goes on till 11.30. i also go to a toddler group at st johns church on monday afternoon from 1.15-2.45

babyboyRyan · 10/03/2009 15:50

Hi everyone! I live in Stanway but i drive everywhere so it wil be nice to meet some mums because at the moment im not going anywhere and i dont have a lot of friends with babies. ive got a boy who is 7 months tomorrow. Hope to see u all soon xxx

kittykat21 · 10/03/2009 16:01

Wikey Where exactly is the highwoods gymnastics? It sounds like fun! Im glad im not the only new one on here.

Hi BabyboyRyan I dont have many mummy friends either. My DD is a month younger than your DS.

OP posts:
babyboyRyan · 10/03/2009 16:29

Hi Kittykat21 Thats great! Maybe we could go to the highwoods gymnastic together or even adventureland! let me know if u r up for it

pooter · 10/03/2009 19:53

kittykat, we are going to babygym tomorrow - its at 10am, costs £3.00 here is the link babygym

maybe see you there? I will wear brown cords and a brown stripy top and have curly messy brown hair.

pooter · 10/03/2009 19:55

wikey - i must see you at babygym then, 'cos we've been going on a wednesday morning for about a year! who are you???? make yourself known tomorrow - how about a password? erm...seagulls?

pooter · 10/03/2009 19:58

aaggghh - got the times wrong,

babygym (0-24months) so i suppose we should stop going now is at 9.30-10.20

toddlergym (18mo - 5yrs) is 10.30 - 11.30.

we will go to the 9.30 one tomorrow, but may have to start going to the big group - i may wait until my friends little boy is a month or two older.

kittykat21 · 10/03/2009 20:32

Pooter - we cant go to the babygym because my DS is 2 n half! But will hopefully see you on thursday at little monkeys? I think my DD (6months) might be abit too small at the mo for the baby gym but maybe in a month or twos time.

Wikey - are you going to the toddler gym tomoro?

BabyboyRyan - Yea Im up for meeting up...

Maybe we could all meet up together at some point? Adventure land would be good for me because both my DC's will be amused! Anyone interested?

OP posts:
pooter · 10/03/2009 22:26

aha! i wasn't thinking straight

well, see you at monkeys then!

wikey - what's the toddler gym like? is it very structured? DS doesn't take kindly to being told to wait before going on the rampage!

why not start a new thread inviting peops to adventureland? i probably wont be able to go 'cos of uni - but you never know!

lucyfer2000 · 11/03/2009 20:09

Wow its great to see such a hub bub of activity here!!

Just wanted to Hi to the new mums BBR and KittyKat. Hope to see you at a meet up (or something!) soon.

JamInMyWellies · 11/03/2009 21:37

I too am a relative newbie still not managed to make it to any of the meet ups yet but looking forward to the next one.

Snippety · 12/03/2009 23:35

Hi everyone !

Haven't been on here for ages.....just popping in to say nice to meet you at Monkeys today Kell, and have thought of a couple more things:

Colchester Library in town used to do a free rhyme and reading session for babies and toddlers on Mon and Wed alternate weeks. I stopped going because Tal decided to start napping really early but now I'm moving to the town centre it should be ok. I'm not sure if it's still on because the library has been closed for refurbishment recently but I'm planning to check it out.

Also there's Town Tots at the Quaker Meeting house which is 10.30 to 12.00 on the Fridays that isn't La Leche (1st and 3rd Fridays of the month, I believe). The organisers are really nice. Again I stopped going because I hated dealing with grizzly, sleepy boy on the bus home but now that won't be a problem - yippee !! That's £2 but you get a cuppa and a biccy.

Hope to see you soon
