Moving to Swindon

I'm planning to move to Old Town, Swindon at the end of April with my boys aged 8 and 10. I won't be working and my boys are at boarding school which makes it difficult for me to meet mums/friends or for my children to have friends in the holidays. I'd love to meet up with anyone or join a group and it would be especially great to meet parents with kids of a similar age.

Any advice on how to avoid loneliness in Swindon will be greatly appreciated!

I meant to add that I'm not a forces wife so I don't have that network to fall back on.

i used to live in old town
a lot of the mums go to the old town gardens after school
in the summer holidays there is a holiday club in the croft sports centre
so what do you do with yourself?, you must be on your own a lot during term time

I watch TV,surf the internet, go on the treadmill (when I feel like it) - boring! I haven't got my hands on the postman yet!

Actually the boys have ridiculously long holidays- 10 weeks in Summer, 4 weeks in Easter and Christmas etc.

What is the old town like, and Swindon in general - are people friendly?

Swindon gets a lot of bad press but it is a friendly place. How have you found it so far? Do you like sport?
