Hi All

I am a mum that is hoping to move to a nice area in Birmingham. I have looked at a few areas and one that interested me was Solihull as its easy and quick for family and grandparents to get to as they are based in Oxfordshire.

Was just looking for opinions on the area and also I am an OFSTED Registered Childminder and was wondering if there any mums out there struggling for childcare in that area or as a childminder would that not be a good move? Also what other nice areas in Birmingham needs childminders. Quite open for all opinions.

Thanks in advance

Actually Cat, I find Bham much more mixed than other cities- eg mosely- park hill- one end almost slums, the other almost millionaires- it's really odd. Other cities, such as M/cr, are much more segregated. Look at either side of Hagley Rd- again very close to each other, but you'd want to live on the south side...
I've found this odd since I moved here tbh.

That was the thing that struck me when I first moved to Birmingham - "social apartheid" seems far less clear here than in any other UK city I've been in. I used to live in Moseley and at one end of my road were prostitutes and drug dealers and at the other end were seven bedroom houses costing at least half a million (this is 15 years ago or so).

Personally I like Solihull . I loved knowle also and want to move when my son finishes school however , knowle does seem expensive.
Reasons ...
Airport (cheap last minute flights)
Shops ... (Apple store and touchwood centre)
Resortsworld (retail wholesalers)
BHX public sale twice a year
Train station with direct trains to London
Schools ... some (ofstead outstanding) apparently (haven’t reseated for a few years )
Super fast internet
Lovely friendly people (from what i’ve observed)
