Have a heard speculation that Waitrose are looking to move in. What do you reckon - do we need it, do we want it??!

I bought lavender & lemon and cherry & geranium cupcakes and felt the very personification of ponce.

Thankfully I live far enough away that it will have to be a specialish trip rather than an everyday shopping destination. Unless they do home delivery .

I hope they stock that baby bottom butter everyone raves about!!

shonaspurtle · 09/07/2009 00:25

Oooh! It might mean we'll get Ocado too then.

poo. Had also heard they were thinking of the old Morrisons Site in Giffnock and had got my hopes up!

Oh Happy Day!

About blardy time.

The bottom butter gave the DSs a rash.

lolol at your ocado desires, spurtle. i thought the very same thing. (glasjam knows how near i live to that shop )

talking of whom, i hope the move went well, glasto.

shonaspurtle · 19/07/2009 20:25

Well I live a whole mile away so I need delivery to my door by polite young men.

AitchTwoOh · 19/07/2009 20:52

oh yes miss, you do miss.

Yay! The word on the street proved true! It will certainly make going down the Byres Road a different experience. I used to live near one before I had kids and wasted a LOT of money on poncey stuff. It was always such good quality though - it will be torture going in there in many ways. I can see myself angsting now over some inessential, delicious thing. But on the whole it will be less of a grim shopping experience even if I just come out with a pint of milk.

House move went well Aitch. Boiling heat - got the basics unpacked and then went visiting relatives down south for 10 days. Just got back yesterday and remembered how chaotic everything was when we left! Have totally lost the heart and energy to fight anything on a legal level - got all our deposit back. There's just SO much to do to get this place ship-shape - can't quite fit our food in the kitchen at the moment which is a bit of a problem. We're trying to think up clever shelving and/or rail and hook solutions but the space is so confined. You'll have to come round as you came up with that inspired solution for your own kitchen! Catch up soon

Went into Somerfield today, drawn in by the 50% off sale. They close on Thursday and it was very depressing and not many bargains to be had (no surprises there). Wasn't as bad as the last days of Woolworths as that was truly a great loss to the Byres Road and so many people were being made jobless by its closure. Woman at the till informed me that everyone who wanted a job was going to be kept on with Waitrose and that they had 2 weeks paid holiday before they had to be back at work with Waitrose - sounded quite chirpy.

Can't quite imagine it being a bright and expensive shiny Waitrose but am still looking forward to it. Will miss their bargain salmon fillets and my son will miss reading the comics whilst I queued at the tills
