As someone who lives in an area that now has no local food shops other than overpriced Tesco Expresses, I hope people in Hove realise what they're going to miss when these little independents disappear.

I drive (spot the irony) to the independent shops around Hove and now it looks like they're going to be buggered.

So much for the council supporting local business in the recession. I bet they won't even agree to remove the parking restrictions outside these struggling little shops.

Are you sure? That's not very far from the Church Road huge one, is it? Do we really need one every couple of hundred yards [unimpressed emoticon]

There's been a meeting between traders and councillors, although the name of the company involved hasn't been formally announced.

I'm just pissed off at how two-faced the council are.

Council leader Mary Mears said: ?Supporting independent traders is particularly helpful as profits from these sorts of businesses are more likely to be re-invested locally.?

The guy at the fantastic independent grocery store near Stoneham Park has been lobbying the council for ages to have the couple of parking bays just outside his shop turned into free customer parking. To no avail.

Moronic. I guess they're excited about 10 minimum wage jobs being created while all the real profits are syphoned off into Supermarket HQ, shareholders and multi-million pound salaries of top execs.

Still, the tomatoes are glossy.
