Anyone been?

What are the veggie options like and how expensive is it really?

Not been there recently

But can recommend the Anchor (not much help though )

Friends have recently highly recommended The Crown in Stoke by Nayland.

MissisBoot · 04/02/2009 16:33

just saw your other thread...

Its our wedding anniversary on monday and we were thinking about going to the Crown!

Sawyer64 · 04/02/2009 16:37

We went to "The Lion" out Great Horksley way (really good with directions....!) It was on the way to Sudbury anyway.

We went Valentines Day last year (ahhhh sweet eh?)

They had a set menu obviously that night, but the food was excellent. So I'm sure its nice normally too.

The Crown is lovely MissisBoot...ask for a table up on the top bit. We missed out, but apparently there is one really 'romantic' place to sit.

Will check out the Lion....perhaps Lucyfer can shed some light on it.

Think The Lion is in Leavenheath?

morethanyoubargainfor · 04/02/2009 21:40

Yes the lion is there.

I to can reccommend The Anchor at nayland, veggie options not too bad, (not the typical mushroom or aubergine options, although menus do change daily)

Mung · 04/02/2009 21:52

Last time I went to the Anchor we got put in the bay window and got forgotten and cold. The pumpkin platter I had was lovely though. I think I will return in the summer, when I can sit outside.

I really liked the Crown, not huge veggie choice, but DH seems to think it wasn't cosy enough. That may be because we were sat quite near the door all the smokers used. It didn't bother me. I really liked the busy, friendly atmosphere, so I'd recommend it MissisBoot.

Yes thats right Leavenheath.....sounds familiar now.

Well, me and DH went out last night to Gastro 1603 at the bottom of East Hill - it was DELICIOUS!! we both agreed it was our best meal in ages. Veggie options - lots of starters, i had stilton and leek tart - yummmm, a couple of pasta/risotto veggie things, but i had the warm root vegetable salad which was soooo yummy!! both had puds as well. ooh, i want to go back!! Came to £50 and we had starters, mains, puds, coffees and two drinks each. yum.

Mung · 05/02/2009 15:11

Another fridnd suggest there and I was put off by the huge amount of vouchers that keep coming through my door for there. I felt they were really trying to promote it because they had no business. The trouble is that I have thrown all my money off vouvhers out...grrr.

OP posts:
pooter · 05/02/2009 17:29

it was really busy - especially for a wednesday evening (we only went there cos of the vouchers too, but im insisting we go back regularly!!)

Mung · 05/02/2009 20:34

I think we might give it a go...will need to book it seems. Are you still doing your 'Monday night is Romance Night' in the Pooter household? (Although I know it was a Wednesday)

not been to the white hart in nayland. the white hart in west bergholt is nice though!!

Never heard of the lion either sorry...

The Yew Tree in Great Horkesley is really nice though. Food and wine is fab and lots of veggie stuff that is nice. they have a really nice greek platter as sharing starter with feta, olives, humus, pitta, artichoke etc.. yum yum!!

Gastro certainly sounds worth a go pooter - going into town might even convince me that i was being cosmopolitan!!

pooter · 06/02/2009 19:23

no mung that was quite shortlived - we had about 6 dates, then it fizzled out when the babysitter couldnt make it one night.

MissisBoot · 09/02/2009 16:51

We went to milsoms today for lunch and it was delish!

Mung · 11/02/2009 21:17

Glad you liked Milsoms MissisBoot.
