Any new mums in Leith who would like to meet up?

I'm one of the first in my group of friends to have a baby and so far haven't really got to know anyone that has a newborn in my area. So I'm looking to get to know some new mothers in my area for the odd coffee and a chat...so if you are interested then get in touch. Or if you know of something in my area already happening then please let me know.

I'm 34, married with a 3 week old baby called Isabelle and work for a conservation organisation....currently struggling with breastfeeding and tireness and still haven't managed to move onto reuseable nappies!

I'm not in Leith BerryBaby, nor do I have a newborn, but I just wanted to make sure you know where to go for help with breastfeeding if you need it.

"New mothers who want help and advice on breastfeeding can attend a drop-in clinic for free support at the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The clinic runs from 12 noon to 4 p.m. every Tuesday. For more information call 0131 242 2490."

I have lifted this from an old NHS lothian website, but I am pretty sure that the clinic still runs if you need it.

Also, the birth resource centre in polwarth is where to find La Leche League. They hold meetings on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month at 1030. The 2nd Friday is for young babies and the 4th for older babies and toddlers, however anyone is welcome to attend either meeting, especially if you need help.

HTH, and good luck.

hi, used to live in leith, the healthvistors are pretty good at pointing you in the right direction for groups. my sister went to a nice one in the church at the bottom of restilrig road near the links.

congratulations. and don't fret too much about getting out just now 3 weeks is still so incredibly young and you need to find your feet.

Hi,

You sound like you're in a similar place to me!

I live in Newhaven just along from Ocean Terminal. Am also first of my group of friends to have a baby. My daughter is now 11 weeks (and I'm 32 and married) and I'm just getting to the stage of looking for things to do and people to meet during the day.

I also have a pile of reusable nappies that are sitting in the corner making me feel guilty! But I will make them work eventually, I promise!

Anyway let me know if you fancy a coffee or a walk or something sometime.

Oh should have said- first post from me on Edinburgh board, have posted on some others but not since babes came along. And just found this today whilst googling something else. Have now learnt to type with one hand!

Hi Clara I'm in Leith but back at work now But I used to go to a few different things around Leith.

For breastfeeding help, there was a bf'ing support group at Dr Bells (next to the Leith Community Treatment Centre) - it ran on a Monday from 11:00 - 12:30 iirc, but perhaps check with your HV to see if that's still the correct time? The group was run by the community midwives and they were really helpful, plus it was nice to meet other bf'ing mums.

There's also a playgroup that's run at Destiny Church at the bottom of Leith Walk on Cassleback Street - there's a group for babies that's on between 10:30 -12:00 on a Thursday, pretty informal, you can just turn up whenever...

And congratulations!

Sorry that was meant to be Casslebank Street

Hi,
Congratulations to the new mums!

I live in Leith and have a 10 week old boy and am also keen to meet new mums close by. I was thinking of going to the Little Leithers group at the Destiny Church on Thursdays. My son Thomas was born 12 weeks premature so I'm enjoying his second full week home from hospital. As you can imagine trekking back and forth to the ERI didn't really allow for much time to do the usual new mum stuff you look forward to during maternity leave! T is doing great now and provided we get our pram this week I can finally get out and about. T wasn't due till 24 Feb so my husband and I have been playing catch up!

First lesson of parenting seems to be forget your idealistic plans, we have a box of reusables sitting in a box too! Although given that our darling boy decided to make an early appearance when we were on holiday in the Lake District I've developed a very laid back approach to what I can do !

Hello Clara, Ida here!

Haven't managed to get in touch to say congratulations on Isabelle's birth. Reason I'm stalking these boards is I'm expecting - due 10 July (though no worky contacts know yet... ).

I'd love to see you and meet your little girl. My email is still the same - gmail

Hi Clara

I am a bit late to answer this thread but only just found this site - seems great!

Just wanted to say that I am in the same position as you. None of my Edinburgh friends have babies yet and I would like to get out there and meet some new mums in the same position as me.

I am 32, married with a 13 weeks old son called Tom. I live near Leith Links. I would be keen to meet up for a coffee and 'talk baby!'

Nikki
