Hi

I am thinking of moving to Tunbridge wells from London.

I would be interested in hearing from Mums who already live in the area about what it's like to have small children there, schools, baby groups and childminders...anything you can tell me about good areas that would suit our needs.

I have a good network locally and want to replicate if we left London.

I also need a preschool for my 2.5 year son who will be 3 in August - any recommendations?

Thanks very much for your help

Michelle & Dylan

Hi Amanda and Nina
Missed the message about 9/2/09. Going back to work has severely curtailed my mumsnet time!

I'm free to meet up during the afternoon 23/2/09. Sounds like you're both St James' mums? I'm Molyneux Park Road - shall we split the difference and meet in the centre?
Kate

Hi Michelle
We moved to Tun Wells April 2007 - really nice place to live - alot quieter than our previous life in London but that was also pre-baby! Several nice areas and several good primary schools. From what I can gather quite over subscribed so usual rules re proximity and sibs apply. Claremont in the village area is well thought of, but you need to live VERY close, St James' scores really well but you need to be religious - ideally going to St James' Church. Our local school is Bishop's Down - ranks third in league table - single class per year really holistic approach to children (can you tell I'm quite keen?!), St John's also well thought of but a much larger school. Other good schools besides...
My original baby group has started to break up as people have returned to work (I'm part-time) but am finding lots of lovely SAHMs and other part-timers who are keen to socialise. Have just joined a mums book club - haven't started the book yet though! So generally life with small children in Tun Wells is very good - recommended!

Hi Kate and Amanda
How about 2.30pm in the cafe/resturant at fenicks on the top floor. Or if either of you can think of anywhere else to meet I'm not fussy! let me know if thats ok for you guys.
Nina

Do you think somewhere like Cafe Revive or Fenwicks? Cafe Revive has high chairs and sofas - it's often difficult with active tots to convince them to hang out quietly in a cafe! My son's naps are a bit unpredictable at the moment. Mid afternoon,15.30ish probably best for me but I'm flexible!

abaker · 15/02/2009 20:50

Hi Nina and Kate,
Yes fenwicks at 2.30pm is ok with me too, I can meet you both there.
Amanda

KittyTN · 17/02/2009 14:39

Hi Nina and Amanda
Fenwicks at 14.30 on Monday 23/2/09. Looking forward to it!
Nina - sorry I think your last post was still in cyberspace when I was writing mine!

Of course you will both recognise each other - I'm 5f6, collar length brown bob, my son is under 2f and always seen sucking 2 fingers! Not very distinctive, shall we all buy flowers that day?!
Kate

blondiereturns · 17/02/2009 21:47

2.30 at Fenwicks on the 23rd it is then!!
I'll sit near the entrance, I've got medium length blonde, wavy hair, and my wee lassie has gingery/blonde hair! I've got an icandy apple pushchair with a red and black footmuff - might make it a bit easier to recognise me! Look forward to seeing you all. Nina

I will also meet you both by the entrance next mon 14.30pm, not sure if i will have both kids with me though, perhaps just my little girl.

Kate, For your info i have long brown hair and my little girl also has brown hair.
Amanda

blondiereturns · 22/02/2009 20:25

Hi Girls, Just checking that you are both still ok to meet tomorrow? If so, then I'll see you in Fenwicks resturant at 2.30pm. Looking forward to it! Nina x

Hi there,

We too have also just moved down from London (all the usual reasons - great schools, green space, nice vibe).

I am back to work in a few weeks time, but my husband will be looking after the kids (aged 4 months and nearly 4). In London he was part of a regular dads group which he really enjoyed. Is there anything similar in Tunbridge Wells? Or a particularly dad-friendly group with mums as well? All the groups seem to be in the morning which isn't good for him as that's his time for working when the oldest is at nursery.

Thanks,
Ellie
