Don't bother!

Yes, the food is great, IF you can get a table. We arrived this evening at 7.45pm and it was a 2 hour wait for a table for two!!! Needless to say, we went elsewhere. Last time we arrived at 3pm on a Sunday and were told it would be an hour.

You can't make a reservation.

We were most disappointed. So DH and I decided I should come on here and have a moan about it

Honestly, the food is fantastic but I really don't know how you get a table except by fluke.

Completely agree. we waited for 1.5 hours on a sunday but food was excellent and even my usually fussed DD also ate well. Service was good as well. We have been there only once.
Didnt know about the reservation bit.
Since the arrival of 2nd dd havent bothered going out.Can u recommend any other good family pubs around who would not mind a baby in pram.Have you tried chandlery in Newport?. Very good food no crowd during the lunch esp on a weekday and good service as well.

You actually waited 1.5 hours with a small child? You're a braver woman than me! We gave up and went to the Juboraj instead.

Don't know Chandlery in newport, might have to look at that.

We've been up to the Travellers Rest on Caerphilly Mountain a couple of times - not Maen Llwyd standard but good food. No idea re prams though, I've got a 7 year old so it seems a long time since I had to worry about that kind of thing

I heard treharnes arms is good as well though not been there.Juboraj in roath is okay - if you like Indian food try mint and mustard ( a very small place near maskreys specialises in kerala part of Indian food and also Punithas in the Albany road- they are a bit pricey but their wednesdays are dosai evening so you can eat as much dosai as possible, they do a biriyani evening again you can eat as much and as many varieities of biriyani and their sunday afternoon thali is also good value for around 13 pounds)

I completely agree about the Maenllwyd. I've always thought they are a little too 'precious', although the food is nice.

A bit further out is the Ffwrwm Ishta and the food there is gorgeous - quite child friendly too. And yet another drive is the Bunch of Grapes between Taffs Well and Ponty - fantastic Sunday lunch and great with children.

This has got me thinking that we'll go out for lunch this weekend!

The Siz Bells in Penmark are very child friendly and do a decent Sunday lunch. I think 3 courses is about £14. You can book there too and then have a nice walk in Porthkerry Park afterwards!

I have been to Junction28 but not so impressed with the food( I am a vegetarian)

hey cheeses! We were there on Sat!!! waited 2 hours for a table (was quite drunk and not very hungry by the time we were actually seated !!!) but the food was gorgeous. Had goat cheese and beetroot fondue for starters and lamb shank for main.

Once you sit down, the food actually comes really quickly. I think on a saturady you have to go very early to avoid the huge waiting list....

hey gertie!!! That's weird, DH was telling me that his colleague was saying about a friend of her's who waited 2 hours there on Saturday!!! Wonder if that's you??? Could be!

well, tis a small world that's for sure so it wouldnt suprise me at all!
