I have done my son's secondary school transfer and this is our first choice as its adapted for disabled children, but I was wondering if anyone's child goes there and could tell me about the school itself, is it a good school, do they push their pupils etc? and how much is uniform? lol

my dd doesnt go but we live nearby

i hear it is an excellent school though very popular so tricky to get in

not sure about uniform but the uniform shop on victoria street sells it all so you can have a look there to compare

We had to apply under rule 2 (medical and social needs) and we have been told that we have a very good chance of getting Ds1 in there, even though its not our nearest school, its the nearest one who can meet his needs IYKWIM.
Is Victoria street the one from the station to the town?

yes thats right - there is a huge shop opposite iceland

i am sure your ds will love it at the school - sorry dont know any more about it!

This was our first choice of school, although not sure whether we'll get in or not yet. It's a great school!

No idea on cost of uniform, but imagine it will be similar to all the other state secondary prices.

Our sons may meet there!!!

elsiepiddock · 05/11/2008 13:49

My nephews go there, it's a pretty good school afaik.

SparklyGothKat · 05/11/2008 14:04

If we get a place I shall tell him to keep a look out!
I know the SENCo from Beaumont (professionally rather than personally) he seems a really nice guy and on the ball. Have you met him yet? If you haven't, why don't you go for a visit?

SparklyGothKat · 05/11/2008 18:20

yes I have met The SENCo and his assistant. We have seen the school twice lol! Will let you know if Ds1 gets a place.

I only left Beaumont three and a half years ago (I was a pupil) and came out with 3 great A-levels. The staff are generally supportive and competent and overall I'd say the school has a lovely atmosphere. There seemed to be a real crack down on bullying and as far as I'm aware it never ran rife - I think this in particular is a key thing to look for in a school as I always find it harrowing to hear of schools which operate under laxed bullying disipline.

just recieved a letter saying our application under rule 2 was successful!!!!!

That's brilliant - I gather there aren't many who are successful under Rule 2, but you've obviously had good advice. We didn't manage it last year, but we didn't really expect to either.

GrapefruitMoon · 23/01/2009 10:27

That's great! Didn't realise the places were out yet - or is it just the Rule 1 and 2 type ones??

SparklyGothKat · 23/01/2009 11:13

we haven't had confirmation of the place yet, but Ds1 will be priorty when it comes to the allocations under rule 2, which means he will get a place after any children in care but before siblings, people that live nearby etc. I was really worried as I know only about 20 children would qualifiy under rule 2 (for the whole area) and didn't expect to actually be successful. We did have a lot of medical and professional advice and back up though.

Fantastic news SGK
I'm not feeling that hopeful that we'll get in at the moment, but our second choice school is good too so fingers crossed we get one of the two...

SparklyGothKat · 23/01/2009 21:06

was told today that if our application has been sucessful, then Ds1 is defo. in!!
