Hi, we're moving to Stoke Bishop in 2 weeks and I'm trying to find out whether there are any playgroups in the local area? Anywhere near Parrys Lane/North View would be fab. Does anyone know if anything is out there??? Here's hoping!!!

Hello, we have just moved (last weekend) to just off Parrys Lane.

On the corner of Stoke Hill and Kewstoke Road is Stoke Bishop Hall and I noticed that they have a playgroup/preschool there.

Get 'the titchhikers guide to bristol' (igot mine from the card shop on the Henleaze Rd but think they are everywhere.)

Tons of great ideas for toddler groups etc. Its how I found the ones I go around there, at St peters and cairns rd. I think you are near one at the white tree roundabout and also there is one in reedley rd.

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 05/10/2008 19:14

Hi thegirlbarnes - there's a playgroup on Tuesday mornings at the Westbury Park Methodist Church on North View, I think it's 10.00am? they have a sign up on Tuesdays, you have to duck down a little alley to the right of the church on North View to get to the entrance.

We live just near that church, and as bratnav says she's just moved very nearby, so there's a few of us around!

bratnav how was the move? Are you in ok, have you found everything you need?

bratnav · 05/10/2008 20:57

Moved in fine, all boxes unpacked, DD1 settled nicely into St Johns with DSD, DD2 starts at Sea Mills tomorrow unbtil there is a space at St Johns.

Love the house, love the area, love that I have the dream job that I went for

bratnav · 05/10/2008 20:59

Reedley Road, that's where I live, handy for the next DC.....

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 05/10/2008 21:08

oooh have you got a job? shall i take your name off shortlist for our one?

(we are taking a long time shortlisting, all my fault )

bratnav · 05/10/2008 21:09

yep, got the fab marketing job with a magazine publishers, was going to email you tomorrow to let you know

bratnav · 05/10/2008 21:10

do you mean I got on your shortlist??????

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 05/10/2008 21:12

oh well done, that sounds fab!

Yes, you were right at the top of the list

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 05/10/2008 21:13

shall have to meet up anyway, just not for an interview

there's a Bristol meet on Fri 10th if you're free?

bratnav · 05/10/2008 21:13

Oops sorry, perhaps should have tried to email you before now

bratnav · 05/10/2008 21:14

Will have no DDs though, they are both at school, would that matter?

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 05/10/2008 21:18

No, completely our fault for not getting on with it quicker. I've been waiting for a start date on my new job before interviewing, and they're dragging their heels cause they've just found out I'm pregnant.

anyway publishing job sounds much fabber than working for my DP! (My DP is a lovely boss, but it's a very small company)

Meet up - children are not compulsory, Riven's DD is at school as well but it means more people to play with my DS!

bratnav · 05/10/2008 21:22

Congratulations on PG, when are you due?

ACL · 05/10/2008 21:22

Titch Hikers Guide - a must - great bookshop in Northview called Durdham Down Bookshop. Btw small and quiet cinema next to Waitrose at the end of Northview - not as loud as the huge cinemas.

Reedley Rd Baptist Church - excellent Mums/Toddlers on Thurs am called Wots-tots. Good Playschool there too. Just around the corner is Elmlea Infants and Junior Schools. Nearby is Jack and Jill Playschool - Great Brockeridge - up the hill! I think they take from 2 ish yrs.

Fab playschool at St Mary Magdelene Church, Sneyd Park if you like a quiet playschool environment. Also a Mums and Toddlers group Mon pm.

Montessori playschool in Parrys Lane.

Fab Mums and Toddlers called IMPs - see Titch Hikers - long waiting list.

Reception entry 2008 - huge number of children this year and loads with siblings so many have not been given their first choice of school.

A large choice really here re playschools and Mums/Toddlers in BS9 - also look at Redland, Henleaze, Westbury On Trym - so worth taking your time to see which you prefer. Consider where your children go to school and look for feeder playschools etc.

Good luck!

thegirlbarnes · 05/10/2008 21:53

Big thanks to everyone who has responded - can't wait to move in and check out all the suggestions! Sounds like there is much more on offer than I had imagined!

More ideas!

Swimming - Water Babies/Little Fish at St Monicas which is the gothic building on the Downs (White Tree Roundabout - look out for the white painted trunk of a tree!), also Splash Happy Swimschool (for 3 +) at Badminton School (opp St Monicas).

Never been but there is a playgroup - coffee/cake thing and play/story - at the zoo. Great adventure playground at the zoo.

Parks - Canford Park - OK but not great but it is local. Better park is at Blaise Castle but it is quite a way away in Henbury. Can walk to it from Coombe Dingle - off Canford Road, opposite junction with Coombe Lane.

With my son we went to Redland Toddlers as they ahve a quiet room next to a busy room - great for him as he was developmentally delayed (hypermobility).

Great music group for little ones (and older ones) - Crotchet Factory in Eastville near M32/Ikea/Tesco. On the web www.crotchet-factory.co.uk I think. From 6 mths! Fun time for both parents/carers and children!

Look out for Just So toy shop in Clifton and in Henleaze Road - great toys - not like the Toysrus experience!

IMPs is in the Westbury Community Church by the way - Westbury Hill I think.

Late night Lloyds chemist in Westbury on Trym village btw.

Yes - lots to choose from and to travel to if you wish.

Oops gone OTT here!

Hope your move goes OK
Alison

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 06/10/2008 10:24

Hi ACL - We go to Redland Toddlers on a Friday, do you still go?

ACL · 06/10/2008 10:30

No we no longer go - sorry - he is now 10! My daughter has just started school.

I have fond memories of Redland Toddlers! We just felt safe and happy there, and it was fun for him as he had age appropriate toys rather than being stuck on a baby mat in a large hall, dodging the bikes! The food was lovely too - thank goodness for tea and biscuits!
