Richmond Pub and/or Restaurant Recommendation - perhaps on the river?

Any ideas on somewhere to take an American for drinks/eats in Richmond? - ideally looking for something quintessentially English (not necessarily the food - but certainly the setting) as they've never been to UK before. Perhaps a pub and then restaurant? Unfortunately I don't know the area, but they are staying over that side of town.

The White Swan (pub) by the River in Twickenham (Marble Hill area) is lovely. The Lass O'Richmond pub up near Richmond Park is a fairly quintessentially English pub serving a great Sunday roast. The Petersham Hotel in Richmond has fabulous views. And The Petersham Garden Centre is nice for a coffee, it's a wonderful setting. Expensive for lunch and you'd need to book - but v highly regarded.

The Roebuck pub in Richmond is lovely, v.charming & nice views over Richmond too. I also second the Swan if it's a nice day.

Oh yes, The White Swan is lovely. Also, the White Horse in Old Palace Lane does excellent food and is a proper pub and child-friendly and also does a good Sunday roast.

How about tea at the Maids of Honour on Kew Road, near Kew Gardens?
They do full-on afternoon tea with cakes on cake-stands and scones etc!
