Meeting some other mums and dads

The thing is, I spend a bit of time on MN and get on well with lots of people.

I have plenty enough friends in RL, and am not too bored, I work, and have a good enough social life.

BUT, I hardly know anyone with children, those who I do know are not very local, apart from one with a newborn! (Not sure if she counts yet )

DD is now 2.3, she is very sociable, loves other children, but I find parents can be a touch hostile, you know, in the park when she plays with other children, the parents look so wary. Not always, but not friendly enough for me to strike up conversation.

I think DH and I noticed it more on our holiday, there was a little boy on the farm near where we stayed, and we had coffee with his mother so they could both play - he was just over 3. It was so good to see and I realised that DD is now able to play with other children and build a good relationship with others and DH and I would like to meet others with children same age as ours.

So, anyone in Plymouth in need of some play dates/coffee/chance for more than one pair of eyes for the kids?

Let me know....you will find me here, I am on too much a lot!

hi

PavlovtheCat · 28/09/2008 21:09

Hello Piratecat!

I take it neither of you would look at me or DD like we were going to attac them in the play park then?! .

I think, to be honest, DH and I were a bit 'exclusive' as new parents, we were happy and content to be our own little three, when DD did not pay attention to other children anyway. I went to mum and baby group for a bit when DD was newborn to just under a year and lost touch when I went back to work. DH takes DD to nursery rhyme group, but it is cliquey and he cant get there every week, and he is a man and thus a novelty rather than a person to meet for coffee, although he did instigate this several times, did not go anywhere, and to be honest I think we did not try to hard.

And now, DD has been at nursery for a long time and loves playing with other children, and I feel like I should integrate her, and me/DH much much more with likeminded people. Not instead of our current friends, as well as.

Hello. I'm 38. I live on the Barbican in Plymouth. I have a 10 year old dd and 14 month old ds. Most of the toddler groups I go to seem to be full of people who take their friends with them and i'm not particularly good at striking up conversations with people I don't know. Anyone out there with similar age toddler interested in joining me to toddler groups/ toddles on hoe etc..? Got some stuff on here about me to see if i'm your cup of tea!!

Devendra · 17/03/2009 20:10

Hi spacepancakes... I have a DD 20 months and a 14 yr old DD.. Would love to meet for a toddle on the Hoe. Whats your e-mail??

Devendra · 17/03/2009 20:11

Oh and im 38 also!

pavlovthecat · 17/03/2009 20:15

Hey I lost this thread!!!!! I am still here, still want to meet some parents and children for both DD and me!

I sometimes go to the Play Fort with DD, she loves running around there and they do coffee, if anyone wants to meet up for a cuppa and a natter. It is £2 per child, coffee is wet and warm.

DD is 2.8 and very sociable.

Hi i am new to this. Would love to meet up with other mums and kids. I work during the week but finish quite early. Got a little girl age 3 and a boy age 1. We do a lot of things but sometimes it would be nice for my girl to have someone her own age to play with.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/04/2009 11:34

busybee - I just saw this. DD is 2.9 and would also love a little girl to play with! I work 3.5 days, have tuesday mornings and friday all day off, happy to meet at weekends too if easier, you up for it? With the nice weather we could meet up and let all 3 run/crawl in the sun while we eat an ice cream!

tigana · 18/04/2009 21:58

hi! Pavlov you are pregnant!?! Have been away from mn for months...finding a bit of sanity (I think).
I live in turnchapel, and have a 3.8 yo DS. BUT I work full time which restricts me on meet ups.

My theory is that some of the anxious looks from parents are because they are worried their ds/dd will do something 'naughty' like not take turns or push and shove etc...it's sort of performance-anxiety!

Tasha1976 · 21/04/2009 23:11

Hi I am new to this site. Would like to meet up with other mums and children. I have a 2 year old son and am 36 weeks pregnant with a little girl. I am now on maternity leave until April 2010 so have lots of free time on my hands! I live in Plymstock.
