Moving to Bristol - advice needed please!

Bradford on Avon and Frome are currently front runners for places to live but can anyone tell me what the commute is like to Bristol TM? DH hopes to cycle at least part of the way so any cyclists opinions would be great.

Also, we have an 18mth DS and are planning to try for another one after Christmas so any real life views on playgroups, schools etc for either of those areas would be really appreciated.

TIA.

If you can live somewhere along the Bristol to Bath cycle path, that makes it very easy to cycle in to TM!

Schools - no ideas for those places I'm afraid - our kids are at school in north Bristol.

Thanks Tortoiseshell. I'm not sure how likely it is that dh will actually cycle in, the bike has spent the last six weeks sat in the conservatory because "it needs the handlebars retaping" Still at least I've asked the question!

The railway path is lovely actually - very flat and wooded - not TOO much effort required to cycle along it!

Ooh Tortoiseshell, where in North Bristol are you? We are moving to Stoke Bishop on Friday.

tortoiseshell · 24/09/2008 13:35

Henleaze. Stoke Bishop is lovely!

Railway path is lovely, I used to cycle to work in the centre from Fishponds and it was lovely, very flat and easy.

Your DCs are gorgeous, can I ask which school they go to?

DD1 has a place at St Johns, but the council have only offered DD2 a place at Sea Mills

tortoiseshell · 24/09/2008 13:46

They go to Horfield which is a lovely school - we're so happy with it. I'm amazed your dd hasn't got a place at St Johns under the sibling rule? Or is your dd moving to St Johns now? Will you put your dd2 on the waiting list?

tortoiseshell · 24/09/2008 13:46

Your girls look lovely too - the one on the right looks a bit like my dd!

We only knew we were moving a couple of weeks ago. DSD is also at the school in Reception at St Johns and as soon as we are in Bristol we will have shared residency of her, so effectively she has 2 siblings at St Johns

LittleMyDancingForJoy · 24/09/2008 14:39

DS is at the nursery next door to St Johns - do you mean the one at the top of Whiteladies Road? - small world!

bratnav · 24/09/2008 14:54

That's the one

bratnav · 24/09/2008 14:54

Thank you Tortoiseshell-she is our little random one.

dollymixtures · 27/09/2008 20:18

DH very thrilled with all the 'lovely', 'easy', and 'flat' adjectives! Thanks for all your responses.

I don't live that side but near Portishead which is a lovely place to bring up kids and has the cycle path to Bristol.
