Any thoughts on my local E5 nurseries?

Hello,

Yes, we're contemplating our nursery options - for Upper Clapton. So our locals are:
Comberton Children's centre
Rooftop nursery
Bathhouse nursery
Acorn playgroup
Linden Children's centre (although I've dropped in there a few times and think the place looks nice but has a strange atmosphere and haven't found staff terribly helpful)

and the nursery schools at Benthal, Northwold and Southwold schools.

I'm going to go any try to see as many of these as I can but was hoping that someone might be able to give me the benefit of their good or bad experiences at any of these or others I've missed. It's so hard to really be able to tell from simply visiting.

Thanks!

Bathouse has a good reputation. My sister teaches at Benthal - I will ask her if you like

Oh, forgot to say DD is 3..not 6 months or anything...!

Janx, yes I do hear good things about Bathhouse. If you could ask your sister about Benthal, and generally about the school too that would be brill as it's a main contender for us but for school. Thanks indeed.

Hi
Spoke to my sister and she said the best thing is to come in and visit - she is the early years co-ordinator and is based in the nursery

Hello DisasterZone
sorry this is probably far too late to be of use to you.
but anyway, my daughter has been at Rooftop Nursery since she was 2.5y and she leaves next month to start Benthal Road school in Jan.

Rooftop is fine.
I can't really say anything bad about it,
it does lovely home cooked food
friendly staff
nice easy routines
lots of outside play
good stimulating activities

and it's not as expensive as Coconut, though i guess you get what you pay for, Coconut is probably fantastic.

(i guess it all changes depending on the age of your child)

I think Rooftop is fantastic and my son is often wanting to go back (he is in Year 1 now).

Independent Place on Shacklewell Lane served us well too but children tended to leave when they were about 2 years.

Just an update, our DD started at Comberton Children's centre in November and she loves it. We are really happy, most people don't know it's there and it has the biggest play garden area in Hackney with treehouses, sand pits and more. There is a diverse mix of staff who reflect the diverse mix of kids. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone in the area.
