Hi
Every month I end up with nothing in my account. Everything gets used up. I need to start puttting money aside for upcoming large expenses. Please can anyone help on what changes they made to try and save.

If this is a regular thing every month you are currently living beyond your means.

The solution is to reduce your outgoings and/or increase your income - can be easier said than done though.

Sell stuff, cancel subscriptions to things like Netflix, stop buying nice to have things and work more hours.

i have a set of savings pots that I transfer money to on the day I get paid so that by the time predictable annual expenses come round they have sufficient in them - separate pots for Xmas, holidays, insurances, even for next pair of glasses

I use YNAB to budget, short and long term. Have used it for about 5 years now and I don’t think I’d cope without it now.

When you say bigger costs , how much do you mean ?

Make a list of how much your essentials are and go through all your direct debits and standing orders.
look for better deals on the essentials eg energy, WiFi, tv, mobile etc
if you can’t account for the difference between your essentials and your income then you need to go through bank statements to work out where you’re spending your money.
