Hi everyone, I’m thinking of moving from Kent to Wallington. I don’t know the area and as a single mum with my 3 year old I’m wondering if there’s any insights or opinions you’re willing to share as I see it’s close to Croydon I’m just wondering peoples opinions and reviews on the area please 💕

If you look on local fb page everyone moans about it as if it’s the worst place in the world. From my perspective:

Sutton is a pretty safe London borough in teal
terms .
schools are good
lots of green spaces locally in wallington or carshalton - beddington park, the grove, ecology centre etc
good transport links - trains into London Bridge / Victoria. Bus ride to tube. Quick bus ride also gets you access to Thameslink for Brighton / Gatwick etc.
Close to London for days out / theatre
enough shops in wallington for day to day essentials.

i never go to Croydon except to access east Croydon station as I hate the place!

where in Wallington are you looking?

I live near Wallington. Never go to Croydon to be honest! I go to Sutton, Epsom or Kingston for shopping and go out in Sutton or London.
It feels safe enough, there's different parts to it obviously and some are nicer than others but generally it's a nice place to live, lots of green spaces, easy access to both London and out of London especially if you drive, good schools although when you come to secondary bear in mind it's a grammar school area.

Hi thank you so much for your message it’s near Ross Road, I’d be moving away from all friends and need a fresh start and jsut want to know what I’m getting into and if it’s safe etc especially with my son xx

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if it was too close to Croydon and there was lots of issues as I’ve read such mixed things online. It’s more the safety I’m concerned about as it seems to have lots for kids. Thank you so much again xx

Ross Road is very close to the high street in wallington. Beddington park is not too far a walk from there - also mellows park which is smaller.

I would say as long as when the time comes you send your child to a secondary school Sutton direction not Croydon you will be fine.

There is a nice little Xmas event in the square every year - they have a free Santa in one the shops and local choirs singing and stalls etc.

carshalton village is near and that’s lovely for kids - ecology centre often does cheap holiday activities, Honeywood museum is also free and does children’s events.

there is a place called telegraph track 5 minutes drive from Ross Road - you can walk there and see fields with horses / sheep / goats and buy fresh eggs etc. it’s lovely for a walk as it only has the very occasional car.

Lovely area, we lived there for many years and my kids went to primary school there. Lots of young families with kids, great parks and activities. Great schools, also many grammar schools if you are interested in that. You can totally avoid Croydon, we never went there and did most of our shopping in Sutton.
