My little one turns 1 soon and I’m wanting to go out for the day. I was thinking play place, zoo, aquarium etc. has antonyone got any recommendations on where would be the most appropriate and fun for a 1 year old to go with his mummy and daddy? Thanks!!

To add, was thinking midlands area!

Turning 1?

trip to the playground and lots of playtime at home but keeping with routine as much as possible

Aquarium? Zoo?

utterly wasted

I think an aquarium is a good idea at this age - there’s so much going on, like a sensory class of some sort.

Thermoscof · 22/10/2025 06:45

If so you and partner enjoy, pick anything from that list!

There is the zoo, farm, play areas, afternoon tea (1 year old appropriate food ofc) :-) hope you’re little one has a fab 1st birthday x

The day out will be for the adults not a one year old.

Why wasted?

I took mine to an aquarium when they were a baby and they enjoyed looking at the creatures - lots of lights and interesting movement etc.

Edited

It really isn’t

if anything… a farm

cornflakesandtea · 22/10/2025 06:52

I’d do the zoo but more for me than the 1 year old!

AJA14 · 22/10/2025 06:58

Thanks for the replies! Mm, I don’t think wasted. We’ve done the farm and he was so interested and I didn’t think aquarium would be wasted because of the sensory aspect of it, looking at movement and light changes etc.

I found aquariums great at that age. They seem fascinated by the colours andoghts and I like them too

For my son's 1st birthday, we went to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham, then for a pub lunch. It wasn't a waste of time at all, as we enjoyed the day for ourselves and it was nice seeing him react to the lights etc.
