Oxford Neighborhood Advice!

Our family is relocating to Oxford this fall and looking at two rental properties as of now and would love to get input as we are not able to travel to the UK prior to our relocation. The ability to create community as well as safety for our upper primary school age kids and the ability to walk to parks/make friends is really important to us.

We are looking at affordable options and came across a home in Headington and in north Summertown. We love the wide open spaces and safety Headington seems to offer but the walkability of Summertown appeals to us.

If you were going to move your family to Oxford for 2 years what would you recommend?

We are really excited for this adventure! Thank you in advance for any input!

I personally love Summertown for all the facilities (North Wall, swimming pool, the particular mix of shops) so would pick that over Headington. If you’re going to be driving to London a lot then Headington is probably preferable.

What schools are you looking at?

Hang on though, where is ‘north Summertown’? Do you mean Cutteslowe? Or is it well inside the ring road?

I would personally start with what school you want the kids to go to and then look for a house based on that.
