Where to move to!?

Hi everyone,

We are reluctantly considering moving out of Wimbledon as secondary schools here aren't great, but we are really struggling to decide where to go next. We are so spoilt for transport here with the Underground and Overground, and we love having everything on our doorstep, but we need more space and want to find an area that still has a strong community, things going on, and good access to amenities.

Does anyone have recommendations for areas that would offer a similar feel but with better secondary school options? Ideally, we still like decent transport links into London and a place that doesn't feel too remote.

Would love to hear from anyone who has made a similar move or has insights!

Thanks so much!

Dulwich. East Dulwich/ west Dulwich/ Dulwich village. Not cheaper, but the schools are excellent and amenities are similar.

What kind of housing budget do you have? St Albans is lovely, has good transport links to London, things going on, and very good secondary schools but is expensive. Reading also has several good secondary schools and things going on, and connections to London.

I know St Albans but I think I want to be south of the river. I used to work there when I was younger and living near Watford.

I don't have a clue about Dulwich though.

I think we have a pretty good budget but then again it's all going mental isn't it!

are you looking for private schooling?

wipeywipe · 05/02/2025 23:31

I think the states Dulwich way are pretty much in line with Wimbledon.

No not private schools. Hence why we liked Hinchley wood. Secondary in Wimbledon is not that great for girls.

You thinking Hinchley Wood School? I didn't think it was much different to Ursuline

wipeywipe · 06/02/2025 20:58

Oh that's catholic isn't it! Most of the best London schools are unless they are a grammar. Maybe look North Kingston/Richmond way as there are a number of v.good comps there.

kittybloom · 06/02/2025 21:01

Hinchley wood is coed and not religious so differs to Ursuline.

Given you are in Wimbledon, makes sense to look at first patch of Surrey so that includes Hinchley Wood. Or Twickenham / Ham area for Grey Court or Orleans.

Hinchley Wood area you get more for your money and nice to have a bit more space & green.

Pinkpather40 · 08/02/2025 00:09

Thanks all! Yes Ursuline is catholic and not to be rude but I don't really like a lot of the girls attitudes when they are walking around. We are not religious whatsoever so against pretending to be and all that nonsense.

Finding this really quite hard!
