Relocating to Shropshire

Good evening, me, my husband and our 4 year old daughter are considering relocating to Shropshire, we currently live in the West Midlands but we want to live somewhere beautiful green and safe, we also love the amount of beautiful period properties available. We have shortlisted some houses to look at in Telford (Ironbridge, Doseley, Coalbrookdale and Hadley) Craven Arms, Shrewsbury and Oswestry. We are looking for opinions on theses areas for a family wanting to bring their daughter up somewhere nice and safe. Our daughter is due to start school in September so schools need to be considered and I sometimes need to work in Birmingham so somewhere around 90 min car journey max from there would be great. Any information or advice would be really welcome!

Thank you so much!

I would favour Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale, Bridgnorth, and Shrewsbury. All nice, good transport links/closeish to Birmingham (about an hour drive,) and green and pleasant/near River Severn.

Oswestry is OK but a bit far out, (like Whitchurch and Market Drayton) if you need easy access to Birmingham. They are up in North Shropshire. Ditto Craven Arms. (South Shropshire.) Bit rural. And a bit of a trek to Birmingham!

As for Telford: Wherever you are there, it is not a bad trek to Birmingham. (40 to 50 minutes on a good day.) North Telford has some quite decent suburbs.. Apley, Bratton, and Shawbirch. Doseley (mid Telford) is OK, but Hadley is a bit rough.

Good luck!

Thank you so much @SabreIsMyFave the areas that you have mentioned are the areas we are now focusing our search on after a few visits so it's nice to know our instincts were right! We recently started looking in Bridgenorth which looks beautiful and reminds me of Ironbridge (an area I've really set my heart on but can't find a property that works for us) Thank you once again for your response x

Hey, you're welcome! And I hope you will be very happy in Shropshire! 😄

Bridgnorth is lovely! Smile

Bridgnorth is absolutely gorgeous with great schools and easy travel to the larger town of Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton too. I wish you all the best with your move, I’ve lived in Shropshire all my life and never ever plan to leave!

Oh that's so nice to hear we are actually viewing a house in Bridgnorth on Saturday, so may see if we can find a few more worth a look. I adore Ironbridge, and Bridgnorth looks similar, am I right in thinking that? I'm not sure if you can help with suggestions in other parts of Telford like Horsehay and Madley are they nice for a young family? Thank you so much for your help X
