Hello, I'm new to Mumsnet so forgive me if I get the etiquette wrong! I'm moving to Oakley in Basingstoke next week - does anyone know of any parent and toddler groups I can go to to meet other mums?

Hi newtoOakley. I cant help you with the parent and toddler groups but try the library in town, they do a toddler storytime, the sports centre has gym tot sessions, JJ's playland also does toddler mornings. My sons favourite is the gym sessions at the Active life centre. Its run by the bstoke gym club, its softplay equip and trampolines. Hope thats a bit of help.

If you check this weeks free gazette, theres details of a group that meets just behind ASDA on a Friday morning. My friend is a helper there and they all seem a lovely bunch! It's called 'smilies'. Also, there's a group called Thursday Tots that meets at Rucstall hall on a thursday morning (Black Dam). I can find out what time etc if that helps? HTH

hi - i'm in Overton, so dead close to you! the baby clinic is weds in oakley and fri in overton, every 2 weeks. its the same HV's at them. in overton there are mum and toddler gps after clinic, and NCT coffee mornings regularly. if you wanted to drive over i'd be happy to go with you! my dd is 7 weeks, so i've only been to them a couple of times, still getting to know people!
which reminds me, purplelostprincess and kys, you were both on my list to email, would still love to meet up! xxxxxxx

Hello nice helpful ladies.

JackBlackRoady - thanks for invite - would live to meet up - Overton is nice and close...how do I contact?
PurplelostPrincess - There's an ASDA in basingstoke?! Crickey, maybe I haven't worked my way around yet! Have only found Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys!
Kys - many thanks, will go to Active Life Centre next week - have also hear they do dance there - sounds like a great place.

My little girl is going into hospital 23rd June for Tonsils,Adenoids and gromits - life on hold for a few weeks after that but then keen to do fun things in the summer....any ideas?

Thanks all,

PS - my name is Toni

Hi Toni,
I'm gerry, and my email is gerrygray [at] gmail.com - drop us an email, maybe you could come to the next NCT meet or Friday toddler group?

Hello, just seen this so I don't know if you will now so long after the OP.

Anyway, I run a toddler group in Kempshott so quite close to you - 5 mins in the car max. It is at St Marks church on Homesteads Road on a Tuesday 10-12pm.

If you can, try and get hold of a copy of the local NCT handbook. It has loads of stuff in it about things going on for pre-school children. We have one at our group for reference and I am not sure where you get them from but your HV should know or if not, she should have info on all local toddler groups/activities too.

Hope your DD's op went OK.

Hello, I am a new mum in Overton and dont know many people as we have only just moved here. Do you know of any mother and baby groups in the village and if you need to call to book a place or if you can just go along? Thank you.

Meglet · 06/03/2009 22:55

I don't know of any in Overton. But jackblack (below) lives there. I expect if you go along to baby clinic someone will know all the baby groups. I'm near the town centre and go to one on a monday.

Thank you to whichever Overton mum sold at the NCT sale! Hope you did well and didn't get too much stuff back (think I did OK but will have to wait till I get given the cheques to sign )

Any of you visit the sale yesterday? I made DD2 very happy with a bag of (yuk) Bratz. I don't particularly like them but she got given one at Xmas and it only had the one outfit, so I didn't mind buying a bag of stuff second-hand. And I got a trailer for the back of a bicycle which will save us having to hire one on hols (we're going to a Centre Parcs type-place which includes bike hire but not the kiddie trailers). With a bit of luck I sold enough to cover my purchases...

Don't know if you have already found this out but below is a list of Overton groups!

Monday: 1.15 to 2.45 "Tea and Tots" in the room at the back of the Methodist church. Run by two local ladies.

Tuesdays: 2.15 to 3.45 "Seekers" a short service in the church (10 mins)followed by play and tea in the church rooms

Wednesdays: 9.30 to 11.30 "Tiddlers" in Freestoke village hall (off to the right just after the hump back bridge in Laverstoke) - this is run by parents. Also on Wednesdays is a new quieter group in the church rooms which is similar to "Friday Friends" (see below) but a bit less busy. This is run from 10.00 until 11.30 and is hosted by the Mothers Union.

Fridays: 10.00 to 11.30 "Friday Friends" in the church rooms (behind the main church) run by the Mothers Union. (Virtually everyone with a child under 5 in the village seems to go to this one!)

Most are a 50p or £1 contribution and you just turn up!

Hope that helps!
