Things to do in Sutton??

Hi there

I live in Sutton and have a 2(nearly 3) year old. I'm really struggling to find things to do that don't cost very much especially when it's wet!! Does anyone have any ideas?

Also are there any groups where I can meet local moms? I moved here 18 months ago and haven't really met anyone. I went to the Toddlers groups at the church in Belwell Lane and at Mere Green community centre but they weren't massively friendly. Also I phoned up the local NCT and was told not to bother to join as they didn't do anything!

Hi .. I live in erdington and i have found the best way to meet othe parents is through toddler groups. If the ones you have tried have been unfriendly you can get a list from birmingham city council (maybe also from their website) of all the local groups in your area. In my experience toddler groups can vary hugely from one i tried which really was just a coffee morning for the moms while the children had very little to do, to the opposite end of the spectrum where the kids had a huge variety of activities but the moms were left with nothing. My youngest is just 2 and he goes to erdington methodist church toddler group on station road on tuesdays and wednesdays. However if your little one is going to be 3 before september they will, i presume, go to a state nursery then. My middle child who has just turned 3 goes to erdington methodist church preschool (same building but downstairs) on tuesday, wednesday and thursday morning. He stays there and has tremendous fun .. i know this doesnt give you the chance to do the coffee morning thing but you will be surprised at how many moms you can meet and chat to before and after. Libraries are also a good option as i know erdington library does do special sittings for children of different ages, i presume sutton does to. Hope this helps xx

Thanks for your advice. My son will be going to nursery soon so hopefully I will meet some nice people through that. I've actually just started taking him to storytime at my local library so maybe I will meet a few people there when I become a 'regular'.

Hi - I don't know where you live in Sutton but there is a Mothers and Toddlers Group at the Community Centre at Harvest Fields Way, which is the new estate off Worcester Lane. Every Thurday betwee 9.30 -11am

There are loads of toys and games for the children to play and the people are all very friendly. There is also another Mothers and Toddlers Group at the Church in Mere Green on a Friday between 9-30 to 11-30am.

Unfortunately both are in term time only, which means that they will be finishing next week and re-opening in September.

To find out what is on in the area ask you local Health Visitor. But can I just say that some people are down right miserable no matter what!!!
