Moving outskirts of york

Hi everyone,
We live inside York at the moment and are renting an apartment. The house prices have gone sky rocketed and we won't be able to afford a good house with a proper garden space inside York. So, we started looking for houses in nearby villages around York. We thought of dunnington, but it seemed to be far more expensive than we thought. We travelled through Melbourne a couple of weeks back, it felt very quite and the houses also looked pretty amazing. The primary school on Melbourne seems to be quite nice and has a good reputation. We were mostly concerned about the secondary education as we will fall under the catchment of woldgate school. From what I have heard from people in York, the school might not be as good as ArchBishops or fulford. This post is to ask people who live local to Melbourne/pocklington about the secondary school and if you have kids going into the secondary and your impression about the schooling in general. Appreciate your inputs or suggestions.
Thanks !

Hi Lek75, did you get any info on Woldgate school? We are in a similar situation. We’re moving from the south with our kids. I went to a local secondary in Yorkshire in the past and was teased sometimes for being posh and not ‘Yorkshire’ enough and generally didn’t fit in, which could just be my personality! However now we’re moving back north I’d like our kids to go to a school that’s a more mixed with different backgrounds and people who’ve moved into the area, not a school where everyone has lived in the same town for generations, as then it’s really hard to fit in. I’m trying to get a sense of the York schools.

Hi @Quinquennial , sorry for the late reply. I started this discussion in another thread ( https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/local/5184666-affordable-places-around-york?reply=139679789) and got good feedback about woldgate school. It's said to be a good school and have also heard from people staying local to pocklington.

All schools in York are really good.. starting from Fulford school to Arch bishops to Huntington etc etc..
Hope it helps. And good luck with the move.
