Didsbury vs Hale

We’ve just moved to Manchester from London. We’re currently renting while house hunting and first DC due in November.

We’ve found two houses we like - one in Didsbury (Atwood Road) and one in Hale (Spring Road) and are struggling to make a decision based on the area. Both tick our main boxes of nice village feel, close to a high street and to green spaces.

We prefer that Didsbury is closer to the city with better transport links and a more cosmopolitan feel but our reservations are around schools and whether the area is a bit mixed - Hale seems like a more “idealised” place to raise a family. Would love opinions from people who live in these areas on which you’d choose!

I am local, I would choose hale - spring road is central and a good spot. Ideal for public transport, good schools etc

I agree. Spring Rd is an easy walk into Altrincham as well as central to Hale. It's a great location.

For me, no contest.
Didsbury.

Any particular reason? My post was to try and get more insight on the areas from local knowledge!

Thanks! I was under the impression Didsbury is better than Hale for public transport as the trains only seem to be hourly from Hale? And it’s an 18 min walk to Altrincham tram stop from Spring road. That was my main concern about Hale as I’ll need to commute into central 3 days but I might be missing something?

Both great areas - Didsbury is very well connected for transport links into the city centre - much closer and access via bus, tram, train etc., all of which run much more regularly.

On the other hand you do have the secondary school options in Hale, particularly the Trafford grammar schools. At present, I personally would chose Didsbury every time because I like being close to the city and our kids are pre-school/primary age, but I would be lying if it hasn't crossed my mind about what we will do when the time comes to start thinking about secondary schools.
