Has anyone’s child recently or in the past year or so missed a GCSE exam due to illness and managed to obtain a letter/note from Aireborough family practice?
my child has recently been ill and couldn’t take the exam due to sickness & this practice are refusing to help.

You need to contact the school’s exam officer and see what they suggest you do. Did you let the school know at the time why they missed the exam?

If the practice didn't know about the illness then they can't help you. If they did, ie your DC went to the GP when sick then you just request a copy of the DC medical notes and it will be on there

Did DC see a dr? Did you mention the exam at the time?

Yes so the school were told at the time and asked me to obtain a note from the doctors, I rang them straight up and and the receptionist told me after consulting with other members of staff that this would be done and put it on the dr list to do.
called up after the weekend to be told by the same receptionist that she wasn’t sure they did this.. one of the dr’s came on the phone and said they would’ve needed proof. My problem is that had reception of told me properly I could’ve taken my son into the doctors or even had a telephone call with a doctor on that day but the receptionist has totally messed it all up. I’m so upset by it all and mad with the practice.

I would make a complaint to the practice manager. What an awful situation for you and your DC.

What did the school say would happen if the medical letter was produced? Many exam boards will only allow pupils to resit the exams at a later date - it’s unlikely that DC would be given a grade based on coursework/mock results unless in exceptional circumstances.
