Buying a house in Cheshire

We are looking to buy our first house and start a family. We’re at the stage now where we need to go and find a house.
Our preferred area is Cheshire (perhaps closer to Chester or Northwich, don’t find Crewe very attractive).
Our key requirements are:

  • Within 1 hour drive to Manchester
  • Generally a nice area with a low crime rate - this is our top and key priority. I understand that crime happens everywhere and we can’t totally avoid it, but it happens less in some places and that’s the place we want. We are currently in Manchester, antisocial behaviour/ drugs/ knife crime is really bad here etc - that’s the reason we want to get away from here
  • We obviously have a budget so very posh towns with £500,000 price tag on a 3 bedroom house is out of question at this moment.

Please can someone advise on some towns and villages to go for or to avoid. It’s so daunting when neither of us is from the area.

Frodsham or Helsby would probably tick the boxes

I recommend Sandbach. You can get a lot for your money there and it’s quite nice. 45 minute drive to central Manchester.

Also Congleton (where I live!) meets these requirements too. Just under an hour drive to Manchester but there is an hourly train. I’m from a city myself and living here comparatively is a dream. Slightly more expensive than Sandbach though.
