Anyone want to join me in a fun run on Mersea in August?

As a way of getting myself going on this running lark, I thought I might sign up for a race and then I'd have to start. I just need someone else to do it with....
Anyone interested in this?

... maybe ...

5 miles! (gulp)

I'd kind of got my head round a 5 km, but 5 miles going to take a bit of a mental step up!

Ooooohhhhh no my evil In Laws have a caravan in Mersea and them and all their evil friends will be down there - they will throw tomatos at me if they see me!

Anywhere else would have jumped at it of course!

How far did you go?
I am really thinking about training for it honest!

SparklyPrincess · 13/04/2008 19:26

Oh, you're making me feel really guilty now!

Got all the birthday celebrations finished so that's another excuse down ... WILL get out this week!

Am definitely going to be away that weekend unfortunately, so won't be able to put myself through that.

Having seen all the photos taken recently though - have gathered a bit more motivation to exercise!

Mung · 15/04/2008 15:13

Come on Saz...you can do it.
I didn't go far..in fact I just ran around the Mrks Tey playing field. I ran for 1 minute and walked for 2. Was going to go again last night, but got waylaid...hoping to go tonight.

I know what you mean SP...its the photos that show me that I actually look more pregnant than my 38 week pregnant friend (not pregnant by the way).

Hopefully going out tonight - as long as dh doesn't get back too late, he's on a course this week.

Like the way you had to make sure we didn't think you were pregnant, Mung! Did the same last week while telling friend I was going for a scan - she did a major double take!

Good luck tonight - are you following a training plan? Haven't been for so long I can't even remember where I'm supposed to be up to!

SP xx

I did it...managed to fit a quick 'run' in this evening. Thats if you can call it running. I am following this training plan, so not much running going on at the moment. I found it easier tonight than I did on Saturday, so thats opne good thing.

DH looked into the Nike chip thing that Twinkie was talking about and apparently you cannot replace the battery. When it runs out you have to buy a new one ! I thought companies had to try and reduce, reuse and recycle a bit more these days. So, despite thinking it was a fab idea, I now refuse to get one on principle.

I really might try it. I have no excuse, other than the fact that my trainers have seen better days and probably offer no support whatsoever. I could even run at lunch when I'm at work. I will try to do a couple of minutes at the weekend and let you know how I do!!

SparklyPrincess · 16/04/2008 11:22

Have you got an mp3 player mung? There are podcasts that some bloke has done for the cool running plan. The music is a bit trancey, but he tells you what to do when - am going to have a go with it next time, have just been using a watch.

There's a thread on the Health section for beginners runners and there's a link on there to the podcasts.

Did approx. 7 reps of 1 min walk, 2 min run last night - got scuppered by the hill on mile end road!

I don't think I'm going to get a nike+ either - if it doesn't give you prompts on interval training its fairly useless for my purposes as even the distance logging would be out if I'm not doing the same stride length all the time.

Well done SP. Its odd how reporting back here makes you run (well, it makes me more motivated anyway). So, come on Saz...get a new pair of trainers and get out there!

DH has an iPod, so I could use that if I find the podcast...will look now. The only thing is that I dont even know how to turn the thing on

... it needs cables ...

Mung · 16/04/2008 19:45

Can you believe it, but I couldn't find the charger! Apparenlty, it is in the 'computer box' rather than the 'charger drawer'.

Obviously ... just managed to find mine then had to call my friendly system admin (dh!) to work out how to sync podcasts as well as music.

Not sure why it has to be so complicated!

Going to do a week 3 of the cool running thing tomorrow. Feel like I should be more weeks into it by now but I looked at what they entail and thought I'd start there!

Does that mean that your cables are sorted into categories?? Wow, that's impressive

Don't know whether we should introduce dh's or keep them at least a mile apart!

Mung · 16/04/2008 22:32

I was just thinking the same today. In some ways they would probably get along, but then they'd get tips off each other...just like our DCs really
