Thinking about moving to Merton Park/Morden

Hello everyone! Just looking for some advice about a big decision… We are looking to buy our first home now that we have a baby and rapidly running out of space in our central London rented flat.

We are looking at the Morden area as we can get a house for our budget, it’s on the Northern line and Morden Hall Park is amazing.

Having looked around the area and a few properties around Merton Park we like it and are excited about the prospect of buying something.

However whenever I mention Morden to anyone or read about people’s opinions online, everyone is so down about it… sounds like a regeneration project is in the pipeline but has been for many years so no idea if it will happen. I do just feel that Morden has SO much potential but for some reason hasn’t really taken off.

I would love to hear thoughts from people who live there or know the area - would you recommend it? Is it safe? Any news on the regeneration plans? Very grateful for all advice :)

Bumping this because we are also thinking of moving to Merton Park.

As far as I can see the area has a huge amount going for it, the transport links and Morden Hall Park, plus also Mostyn Gardens with a lovely playground, easy access to Wimbledon, etc. Plus it's flat so I'm imagining cycling everywhere with the DCs rather than always having to drive. Where we are now there's not much within easy cycling distance.

Yeah Morden town centre is not great but it does have the tube station which is handy, plus if you want to go shopping there's always Wimbledon.

I'm interested to hear from anyone in the area!
