Considering the move to Berrylands

Hi all,

Currently living in Fulham with my 2 DSs and 2 DDs, however my DH wants to move to Berrylands in Surbiton to be closer to his family who reside in the local area.

I am wary as I have never lived outside SW and want my lovely children to have a safe and privileged upbringing, my two boys are almost secondary age so would also need to consider a secondary school (preferably private grammar or Catholic) if anyone has any suggestions? My two girls are approximately primary school age, however I am less pedantic regarding primary schools compared to secondary.

Is Berrylands a safe place for a modern nuclear family? I have rather large concerns about knife crime and gang culture as I move further away from my alluring and beloved SW10. I am keen to make new friends of the healthy living pilates type, but am wary of 'getting in with the wrong crowd'. What's the train service like? My trips into London are crucial as it as imperative that I see my therapist at least 4 times a week. I have discussed the matter of moving with her and my fears regarding the suburbs; she has attempted to reassure my flusters relating to this issue but I would like some further reassurance from parents in Berrylands.

I find myself often in a tizz thinking about the risks Berrylands could post to my endearing offspring, as I do believe gang culture could be rife in KT5. Another particularly large concern of mine is the proximity to a Waitrose? Their delicatessen selection is unmatched, but one could settle for an M&S if one must.

Please could fellow parents advise on this burning matter.

Kind regards and wish me luck.

WC

Are you serious? You think gang culture is bad in Surbiton?

It can be smelly if you live near the sewage works.

This is a joke post yes?

wendeigh1971 · 27/01/2024 13:51

Hi Workwhat,

I am unfamiliar with Surbiton so I would like to take every precaution necessary. Thank you for your advice on the smell, I will take this into consideration.

Thanks

Otto & Persephone will need a lot of therapy to cope with the gang land works of Surbiton.

fonfusedm · 27/01/2024 13:52

world!

Gang culture in Berrylands. I've heard it all now.

About to head out on a run. Must remember to dodge the dealers and the crossfire from the gang wars as well as micro scooters and Maltese terriers.

This reminds me of the Catherine Tate bit about Totting-ham

JassyRadlett · 27/01/2024 13:54

I mean I have long suspected the racket club is a front for something...

I really don't know. I've met people like this on London 😂😂😂😂

@JassyRadlett

Hi,

I have heard something about that place from my SIL, it's something to do with the government? Someone who runs it or something? Really unsure about it.

Thanks

We live in that general direction and my kids would definitely recruit yours to sell drugs. Stay safe in Fulham.

titchy · 27/01/2024 13:59

In all seriousness (yes I know it's a joke post) but Berrylands was where police 'stumbled' upon a massive several acre site right by the railway line where a shit ton of weed was being cultivated - so yeah - be careful!

Indeed. The Surrey Grass Court Championships have long been a recruiting ground for government psyops experiments.

That’s exactly what I thought of.

OMG I just googled that; that's crazy!! So no problem getting the herb then? Asking to prevent my children from accessing it and not to help me relax...

Was this written using Chat GPT or something? It reads that way.

If I remember rightly they employed a lot of local youngsters for 'gardening' - so maybe think of it as an opportunity to instil a work ethic in your offspring? Perhaps it could develop into a small business? Great life skills running a gang!

wendeigh1971 · 27/01/2024 14:12

@titchy

Do they sell it on Etsy?

@NothingTraLaLa

No, I don't use ChatGPT. I will actually take your question as a compliment though so thank you.

I'm starting to feel that the people of Berrylands are not very friendly; I feel mocked. I have ADHD so I possibly share too much, but I thought since we are all parents here then the community would be more welcoming.

I will talk to DH and try to convince him that the Sutton/Croydon area may be a better and safer option.
