Moving to Brighton

Hello everyone,

I would really appreciate some information about Brighton as I will be moving there with my husband and our 10 month old. Which areas are safe and nice to live with accessibility to good nurseries, public transport (as my husband needs to commute to Falmer) shops and cafes. We are looking to rent for now. I looked at nurseries in Fiveways and Sevendials and liked both. Any preference on which area might be better?

All inputs greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

At least a few years ago you had to have been living in the de facto catchment for Fiveways schools for some time so you might want to think about school as well as nursery. Lot of university staff living in Fiveways.

Rottingdean or Saltdean. Great family community

Saltdean! Very nice

Avoid Whitehawk and Moulescoomb. As for the rest, it depends on your budget. Bevendean and Coldean are more affordable than most of Brighton and close to Falmer, but not nearly as nice as Fiveways and Seven Dials which are both expensive areas to live.
Hanover is a good middle ground - nice area with a good community, and cheaper than Seven Dials/Fiveways.
Saltdean/Rottingdean are both a long way out and not really like living in Brighton at all, so it depends whether you want access to Brighton nightlife or whether a more sedate area or would suit you better.
I think if I was testing the city out I would opt for Hanover as it’s very close to the town centre, comparatively affordable, and has lots of community stuff to get involved in.

Thanks all for your replies!

I would need access to brighton or london road station hence looking at either sevendials or fiveways. Will check out hanover as well. Any particular roads to avoid in fiveways? Are they all safe?
TIA!
