Wild swimming

Does anyone swim in Mudeford Harbour (Dorset), where they do the paddleboarding etc..is it deep enough to swim in?. Have done wild swimming before, but not regularly, and am a bit worried about rough seas at this time of year so looking for somewhere safer.. thoughts please..😊🏊‍♀️

I’ve never personally swam at Mudeford, but generally it’s sensible to avoid swimming where there is heavy boat traffic. You aren’t easy to see in the water and they aren’t always looking and it can be very dangerous. There will be quieter spots over by Hengistbury Head, but not in the actual harbour area. But yes, it will be deep ish as they do have some big boats that go in and out there. Do you live in Christchurch? There will absolutely be safe places to swim nearby. Safest places this time of year are sheltered coves and slow flowing rivers. Wolbarrow Bay is lovely as is Lulworth, but totally depends on tides and surf. Look up your local Blue Tits group (probably on Facebook) as they will know the best winter spots.

Thank you.. I am much nearer the forest so Wolbarrow and Lulworth are just a bit to far for a quick dip. I go with a friend and we don't like to go deep, so wouldn't be out far enough for the boats, that's why I wondered if that side got deep enough staying in closer to the bank?.. any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.😊. (also don't have Facebook to look up the swim group..may try and find them on Instagram)

There are no good entry points, it's shallow and there are boats. I would not swim there. You'd have to walk through mud too, sandy beach entries are much nicer!

The sea is very flat at the moment. Look on the webcam on surfline to see the waves before you swim, but the sea is not rough at the moment.

I swim in the sea at least twice a week, it's lovely and there are plenty of days when it's not rough 😊

Just had a look on the surfline, shows which nearby seas are flat..perfect..thank you.😊

I don't think Mudeford is ideal for swimming. Join Poole and Bournemouth Bluetits, they will know the best/safest places to swim along that stretch.

Thank you😊
