Winchester / Farnham

Would like some advice from people who live near Winchester or Farnham

We are looking to move within a 10 minute drive of either of these places, ideally in a village location with at least 1 decent pub and a shop

Would consider other towns too but we can't think of any. We like the vibe in Winchester and Farnham, the character of the towns and the different options for places to eat / drink, etc. We need to be between Aldershot and Bournemouth, for family reasons.

We have already ruled out Basingstoke, Alton, Portsmouth, Southampton, Aldershot, Guildford

If anybody has any advice, good or bad, on these areas it would be appreciated in helping us to narrow down our search

School are not a consideration for us, so it doesn't matter about proximity to good schools. We also both drive so public transport is not an issue.

If you want villages near Farnham then Crondall, Ewshot and Tilford could be worth a look.

I can't advise on those areas, but I have family in Yateley and they seem to like it. I've always thought it's quite nice, but one thing I would say (from my limited knowledge) is that it doesn't seem to have a centre as such? Could just be me though. Certainly a couple of decent pubs within a short drive, waitrose, Camberley for shopping.

Alresford?
Romsey? (10 miles from Winchester though)

Odiham maybe? Road links to both those places you mention are good from there, not quite 10 mins from Winch but not far off either. A bit Tory for my taste but then so are Winchester and Farnham so I guess that’s ok for you.
Edit to add, for a town, perhaps Fleet. I’m there, it’s reasonably ok, good driving links and green spaces.

Or closer to Winchester and more village, Hursley?

Chandler's Ford?

I'm Old Basing so about 20 mins from Winchester, it's lovely. My office is in Hartley Wintney, beautiful village. Odiham is worth a look too and definitely Alresford.

Hartley Wintney is also really nice! Maybe too far from Farnham for you which is why I didn’t suggest it on my original list but if you’re willing to push that slightly then it’s definitely worth a look.

Alresford and the surrounding villages are definitely worth a look.
