Help! Infant nurofen needed tonight

Firsttimemum246 · 18/11/2023 23:59

we’re staying at the Lensbury my toddler has already had calpol over an hour ago but his temp is still 40 degrees. Don’t know how often anyone will check this but just in case - does anyone have any infant ibuprofen locally? Everywhere is shut

I'd be going to a+e with that temperature

NuffSaidSam · 19/11/2023 00:02

Are you doing everything else you can to bring his temperature down. Clothes off, tepid flannel on his forehead, room not too warm etc?

What are his other symptoms?

TeaKitten · 19/11/2023 00:03

You need to contact 111 and see if they want you to go to a&e

Summerscoming23 · 19/11/2023 00:04

I'd ask at reception. Also how many mls of calpol has he had in comparison to weight? Could you ring out of hours and ask them can he have more ?

Safxxx · 19/11/2023 00:11

Call 111 get advice...

porridgecake · 19/11/2023 00:46

Definitely call 111. Apart from anything else they know the 24 hour pharmacy location. There will be one.

You need ti seek medical advice if his temp is 40 after calpol.

Firsttimemum246 · 19/11/2023 08:02

Hi all thanks for the advice. I was panicky when I posted this so missing some context.

we had called 111 and had been triaged and were waiting for the dr to call back, while trying to source ibuprofen. We’d also stripped him off and had the windows open.

Realised a short time after posting this we reached four hours after the first dose so gave him another by-weight sized calpol dose

Long story short he ended up having a febrile seizure, am in A&E now. It has been one of my biggest fears as I had one as a child so I was well versed on what to do, just didn’t have the ibuprofen due to being in a hotel. We’ve been reassured but it has not been the best night! Thanks for your help

Hope he's better soon, lovely.

Sounds like you did everything you needed to do xx

bookish83 · 19/11/2023 08:08

Absolutely not saying this to make you feel worse. Just helping for the future in case this is the first time you have needed it.

Maybe now is the time to have a little medicine pack with both medicines in and anti histimines too. The sachets of calpol and neurofen are good for this.

Hope you and your toddler are ok today x

Firsttimemum246 · 20/11/2023 04:39

Yeah we have a version of this but only have calpol, along with antiseptic wipes and a tick remover! Have definitely learnt from this experience, nurofen is coming everywhere with us from now on.

Any further emergency pack essentials suggestions, do let me know. Still figuring this out as you can tell.

He has a UTI which apparently is known to cause peaking fevers, and tonight while I’ve been monitoring him carefully and giving preventative doses he went from 36.2 at 2am when I gave him calpol to 38.8 at 3.30(!)
