George Heriot’s or George Watsons P1

Hi,
Looking for advice from any parents who had kids that have done the entry assessment for GH and GW in P1 recently? I have a very anxious little girl. I think she’s bright enough but can’t imagine that would come across in an assessment day. Most likely she’ll clam up and lose her tongue. She’s also not into things like puzzles or writing her name yet.
Anyone have any wisdom?

We did both last year.

The Watsons one was a shambles - they were dragging screaming children into classrooms. I have been told they are rethinking the process for this year.

The Heriots one was a lot more relaxed - parents and children in one room, teachers play with the children for a bit and then take them to a separate classroom for the assessment (a bit of a chat, some puzzles). Our 4 year old came out saying they loved it.

Unsurprisingly, we went with Heriots

Thanks for your message Ginny. This is very useful! How’s your little one getting on at GH?

It's definitely been an adjustment - for him and us. He comes home absolutely exhausted.

But he seems very happy there, and the staff have been incredibly supportive.

We'd make the same decision again.
