Relocating to Bath 'forever house'

Last time I was on Mumsnet was 22 years ago! Wow, where did that go???! I'd just had Zoe then, and loved all the help and support from other mums here. Zoe is now in her first grad job and her younger sister is teaching English in Thailand. We are currently in beautiful but rural Suffolk, but without school and Uni-related parent stuff it just feels slow, dull and v isolated.
So.... we are planning a moving to Bath.

I read another thread and I'm excited to see there are some smart Bath-wise people out there who might help me think this one through. I'm at the other end of the parenting cycle, schools not an issue, but somewhere the girls would feel they actually WANTED to come visit is.
I'm here pet-sitting for free (through Trusted Housesitter site, really fun) to suss out which parts of town I love. And which parts of town I can actually afford. (Different things - I love the swanky feel of Widcombe for example, but....yeah, could prob afford a small shed?)
All the walking up and down hills is doing my 60 year old hips in! And the little cavalier spaniel I'm looking after comes everywhere, so walking the city is proving less do-able than I thought it would be. I've a few days left to jump in a taxi and mooch around, then walk back to Lyncombe where I'm pet-sitting. So if you know Bath where would you suggest i have the cab drop me?

We have two big dogs so need access to somewhere to walk them (without scaring all the snack-sized-dogs, lol!) Walking distance to train station and a feeling of being 'somewhere' with stuff going on, not isolated and remote. Somewhere that's aesthetically pleasing like Widcombe...but maybe a bit more affordable?
Appreciate all and any help/thoughts/tips/ideas/ Thank-you! Can't wait to hear what people have to suggest... xx
P.S. I meant to add an image of our big dogs but accidentally put my daughter playing polo at Uni. (She's the one of the left) And I don't know how to delete it.... sooooooo tech challenged!
