Can anyone recommend a parent and baby/toddler group in the Caversham area or suggest anything else I can do to get out with my 8 month DD?
I am a bit nervous at the thought of meeting new people.
Thanks

Hi pelafina

Can you CAT me?

It would be great to get to know other mums in the area

I was quite new to the Reading before DD was born and my only friends here work full time and don't have children.

There is a toddler group called Escape held on Monday & Thursday mornings in term-time at the Mapledurham pavillion in Caversham Heights. I take an 18-month old from time to time, but children range from newborn (usually siblings) to just-about-to-start-preschool. It officially runs from 10 until 11:45 but there's no need to attend for the whole time. It's fine to just turn up but don't wear 'best' clothes (you or baby!) as it can get pretty messy.....

Toddler group called Little Teddies held at, Caversham Methodist Church, Highmoor Road, Caversham. Wednesday afternoon at 1pm I think? It used to be really friendly (unlike some).

Hi Fishcakes

I'm in Caversham. There are quite a few groups and your health visitor may be able to give you a list.

there's some at the church in the village and there used to be one at St Anne's school but not sure if that's still going.

there's toddler bounce at Rivermead which is walkable from Caversham and great fun - i still take my DD 3yr old some times.

Let me know if these don't work out - i'm part of a toddler group which i started nearly 4 years ago as i was in your position - new to the area and didn't know a soul. we're still going strong and there are lots of new siblings so around your little one's age. We're friendly and not at all 'cliquey' so if you want to meet up at our next play date, i'll keep you posted.

please CAT me

Find out if your local library does a Rhyme time session, they're great and free and babies of your little one's age love it!

Hi. I'm moving to Caversham in the next couple of months (hopefully) and have 2 girls - 20 months and 3 yrs. Are the toddler groups mentioned previously still going? Someone said that Mapledurham pavilion is a building site . . . Am nervous about leaving all my 'mum' friends where we are now and finding some new ones!

Escape at Mapledurham is still going, I was there on Monday. There were lots of little ones there, mine seemed a little young at 16 weeks, but from 12 months up it seemed great.

There's Rhymetime and Storytime at the library, you have book in advance fro Rhymetime, not sure about story time. They've also just opened a new Children's centre on Amersham Rd, which I think will have lots of activities, it's only been open a week, so I'm not sure what there is.
