Child friendly days out around Colchester

I thought we could start a thread with interesting things to do now that the weather is improving.
So, if you go on a good day out, post it on here and share it with us all.

Today I went to Marks Hall on a snowdrop walk. It was beautiful and DS really liked it. The grounds are stunning and it was a reasonable distance to walk with a toddler. DS loved the frozen lake and watching the ducks walk across the ice. I will definitely return there during summer to see the difference in the grounds.

Good idea!

I saw those snowdrop walks and thought it would be lovely! - If you go to the farmers market there you don't have to pay anything to go round the grounds etc.

We go to Highwoods Country Park quite a lot - v easy to walk around with a toddler and pushchair.

Another place which is stunning when the bluebells come out is Hillhouse Woods in West Bergholt. Quite up and down walk but fine with a pushchair!

Only just moved back to Colchester so not too many ideas yet but...

Flatford (Dedham Vale) is nice. Although there's the river, you can keep your distance easily. National Trust Tea Room for refreshments (bit pricey though). We went a couple of weekends ago when it was really sunny.

Great idea for a thread, Mung! If anyone's got any ideas they think are really obvious, please include them out of pity for non-locals like me!

SP xx

We get the train to Frinton quite a lot as you get twice as much fun - a trip on a train AND the beach! Brilliant!
