Hello my OH and I are looking to move to Whitehaven and having viewed older threads I was wondering if there are more current perspectives? I would genuinely welcome your feedback - thanks so much 🙏

I lived there as a child for a lengthy time. It is a pretty deprived area . Easy to get into lovely countryside so great walks. St Bees beach nearby. Schools were pretty dreadful when I was there. I found it very hard to fit in and it took a long time to make friends. Honestly, I wouldn’t move there personally. Property is cheap.

Depends on your reasons whether it's a good idea or not. I grew up and still have family just down the coast. As pp said it is very deprived, and isolated. You can see that back in the day it was a beautiful town, but it feels dreadfully depressed now. I'd hate to go back and live there.

I think the secondary school in Egremont is ok (my niece attends) but don't know about Whitehaven schools.

Would it be possible to live a bit further from the coast, say Cockermouth, which at least feels less depressing and is closer to transport links and lovely places like Keswick. Not as cheap though.
