"Amazonian" swimming?

I met a mum the other day who said she took her child to "Amazonian swimming" classes at the Thistle Barbican, Central St, but couldn't remember any details.

Apparently it's all about learning how to swim with your baby, instead of staying in a fixed place and moving baby round you like the standard lessons. I'm not explaining it well, but I saw a video and it looked lovely . Has anyone heard of these anywhere Islington or local?

Also, anyone know about swimming with babies before they're 16 weeks and had all the jabs? Seems a long time to wait. I love swimming and can't wait to introduce my son to water - but maybe I'm being overkeen ?

Hi there,

I've just started going to this course it's great.

The website is www.nanukswim.com and the teacher is called Peter all the details are on the site.

I'm sure he'll know if they can swim before they have had all their jabs - the pool at the barbican thistle is quite cold as it's not a special baby pool. I was cold after 30mins but I think he runs a class at Ironmonger row baths as well and that's a specific baby pool so the temperature is better. Probably better for a little one - Check with him.

hope this helps
