St Luke's and nearby primaries

We are moving to Cambridge this summer and researching school places for our two kids (5 and 8). Our new house will be in a Chesterton catchment for secondary (fingers crossed) but need to find in-year primary places for both.

Our catchment primary is Milton Rd and next nearest is Park St, then St Luke's. We know Milton Rd and Park St are both very sought-after so unlikely to have two (or I guess even one) place so visited St Luke's and are considering other near-ish options (Mayfield? St Matthew's? Arbury? Grove?). I know about the history of St Luke's and why it is underpopulated but would love some up-to-date thoughts from parents on this and other nearby schools (I've searched previous threads but all are a couple of years old - sorry if I've missed anything recent though). It seemed nice enough when we visited (if a bit sad that so little of the building seemed in use) but the head was unavailable last minute unfortunately due to an emergency so we're going to catch up with her remotely soon.

Kids are into football big-time, both likely academic (eldest is doing maths with Y6 at current school) so ideally want an environment where they won't get bored but most important thing is a friendly school! They are at a tiny village school currently and have been in same class so really want to keep them together but we want a bigger school for them and more trips, extra-curricular, music, etc and broadening their horizons/opportunities is a big part of our reason for moving.

Sorry for the blather - this is my first post and I'd be so grateful for some local parental insight/advice!

Hi there, if you don’t mind me asking. Which school did you pick at the end? We are in a very similar situation as you were back in March. Any advice or thoughts would great received. Thank you
