Relocation to Perth/Dundee/fife

My husband has been offered a job at Ninewells in Dundee. We will be relocating from Yorkshire and have 3 kids, ages 4,7&8.
Where are the best areas to live for a good commute to Ninewells but also has loads going on for kids and good schools?

I'd look at St Andrews, Newport on Tay, and Broughty Ferry, maybe also the Perth Road/West End of Dundee which is right by the hospital. Not sure the local school (Harris Academy) has that great a reputation though.

Kids in Fife would go to Madras College in St Andrews which is a pretty good school AFAIK.

West end area is great. Plus a short commute to ninewells.

Local primary schools are Blackness and Victoria. Both good. Blackness has slightly better reputation.

Harris is the local high school in the area and is very good.

West end is great being by the Perth road area which has loads of shops and cafes.

The local library is fantastic.
Lots of local kids groups run out of the local church hall.

Lots of great parks too. Plus Balgay park which as an actual park but also great wooded walk to the observatory.

Its one of the main routes for buses too

Thanks, can you recommend anywhere a bit further out? Thinking a half hour commute to Ninewells

Broughty Ferry would be about that or just under depending on traffic.

Lovely area by the beach. Nice houses. Primary school wise there is the Eastern and Forthill and both very good.
The big high school is the Grove. Used to have a great reputation but fell away a bit. Improving again now.

Great parks and lovely shops and cafes too by the front. Active groups for children and adults in the community.

Thanks all.
What are Auchterarder, Kinross and cupar like as places to commute from? Too far?
We are not wanting to live close to the city. X

Cupar is ok as a commute, half an hour maybe? But it's the biggest town been mentioned so far so if you want rural, not sure that's the right place.

I'd look at Newport and Wormit; small towns and only about 15 minutes to Ninewells.

Hi Felicity, my husband works in Ninewells. And we live in Perth. pm if you want to chat about possibilities!!!

Workerbeep · 11/02/2023 19:33

Fife is a long drive round or wait if the Tay road bridge closes.

What about south Angus or Angus OP? Birkhill, auchterhouse on the west side and on east side, Kingennie and wellbank: Monifieth High includes these as their catchment areas and has a good reputation

I commute to Dundee from Kinross. About 30-40 minutes motorway all the way. Kinross High School is good.
